Solid Meshes are Non Solid Meshes
Simple Problem, my own created meshes are mostly non solid.
Which means I can pass through them and also shoot through them. I have post this problem in some other forums but it seems that I am the only person on this planet which encounters this problem. I use 3dMax Rel.3, export to *.ase and import in UT2k3. It doesnt have to do with the properties of the mesh or the possibillities in the meshbrowser, because I can trigger them in any combination and nothing changes. I have tried to rebuild this error with simple meshes, but it seems that you need some degree of complexity of the mesh or maybe a special modifier. My simple caves didnt show this problem, but a statue and a small hut. If you like, and you think it would be helpfull I can send you the hut or the statue. Maybe someone has a solution or an idea. In the last month I get so desperate, so if you have THE solution and you will give me a address you will receive a postcard from Berlin/Germany. OK, that is not the Nobel Prize, but something near ;-) greetings

I had this problem too. It turned out to be a poly with 0 surface area, ie. a poly that takes up no space. It can happen if say, you duplicate/extrude a face, and you scale the face down, move it to one side, and you don't raise it, so it basically collapses a poly. Wow that was a terrible description, I'll have to post a picture.
You really have to hunt these down and delete them, because they make it so they can't cause any collisions ( with players or projectiles, even if you use a collision primitive with it ), and I think it won't even cast a shadow ( since shadows are calculated with collisions... ). So always make sure to delete a poly if you are going to collapse it into an edge. There is no info about this anywhere on UDN, pretty lame that I had to figure this out by myself after hours of hair pulling. Hopefully that'll help.Dan

Wow, these two replys are the first answers from people which have encountered this problem too.
I dont know if this is the real solution, also I have no Idea how to find such a surface, but however, enough answer from FBMachine to receive the postcard, if you wish.

To find those hiding faces, you could go into face select mode and drag-select edges and see if it selects a face that you can't see... Or if 3DSMax lets you see how many faces you have selected, drag-select around an area, count the number of faces you selected, and see if this number matches how many 3DSMax says you have selected, then you'll know you have a hidden/collapsed face in that area. It's a pain, but I don't know any other way around it, short of re-modeling it with this problem in mind. Don't worry about the postcard, though thanks for the gesture.
