Sunlight Actor????

I've been using the Sunlight actor to light my terrain. I have two problems.

1. I'm getting a funny Shadow on my terrain ingame but not in the editor.

2. All the static meshs that should be not be lite (are hidden behind the terrain are bright as if they are being lit by the sunlight actor!!!

Any idea's? I don't want to light my Terrain the old way because it'll take me forever (it's quite big)!!

Thanx Mal

1. From what I know, the shadow anomalies are common. The editor makes a lightmap texture every time you build the lighting in maps. It's not very accurate, and causes jagged edges sometimes. I've never seen shading lines like yours, though. Is that looking at part of the terrain that's inside the world from the outside? If so, the engine doesn't apply the lightmap to areas outside the BSP subtraction.

You might wanna try hiding it with fog.

2. The sunlight actor shines through terrain. Wierd, huh?

I think you just have to add antiportals under the terrain to solve your lighting problem, but I may be incorrect

edit: Antiportals prevent the things behind them from being rendered. This is what I meant to say: you could just add solid brushes instead of antiportals. That will stop your light-through-ground problem

I was under the impretion that Antiportals only removed Static Meshs that are out of view?

Will try it.

Do you have more than one sunlight in there? It looks like there are shadows from one direction that are cut off but shadows from another direction which aren't.

Is there a zone portal there? Is there a duplicate terrain? I think you may have to just cover that up.

1. Only One light Source
2. One height Map. So no Zone portal needed
3. Would love to cover it up... but what with? It's going to be a big map as it is... since this problem is found all around the terrain at the top it would take loads off Static Meshs to cover....

Heres a thought. Find the dimensions of the area that needs to be covered. Of course it is going to be HUGE. Im not sure of its capabilities, but open up Maya PLE that came on disc 3. Create a huge static mesh that looks like the ground ie Has the same texture. This might help you.

Also, you could just add lots of fog, with antiportals in it, but that might cause a little decay in performance.
