Joey 'Jaws' Chestnut Becomes Burrito-Eating Champ

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Competitive eater Joey Chestnut is now king of the burrito. Chestnut, also known as "Jaws," downed 47 burritos in 10 minutes at the New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque on Saturday, beating the previous record of 33½. Known for his hot-dog eating, Chestnut won the annual July Fourth hot dog eating contest at New York's Coney Island for the fourth year in a row this summer. Chestnut, of San Jose, Calif., won $1,500 for the feat in New Mexico Saturday. The burritos in the Garcia's World Burrito Eating Championship were stuffed with beef, beans and the state's famous green chile. The event is sanctioned by the Major League Eating & International Federation of Competitive Eating, the world body that oversees all international professional eating contests.
