The iPod Touch: Unbeatable?

Honestly, when looking at the iPod touch... I'm beginning to think it's the best possible Mp3 player money can buy. It's a mixture of the PSP's huge screen, the DS' touch screen and the Wii's motion sensing capability.

-It can hold roughly 145 CDs worth of music.
-TV shows and movies look simply amazing.
-The applications (MANY of them cost nothing) turn this thing into the most useful tool I've ever seen. Internet, videos, paint programs, games, maps, etc. Just TONS of crazy programs to keep you busy for a very long time.

This thing is less of a music player, and more of an everything machine. So my statement is, with all of the half-assed knock offs out there: this thing is unbeatable.

If you're debating on getting one, my answer is: absolutely. Now, it's only $200 down from $300.

Well, true, if you need a phone, the Iphone is like an Ipod touch that makes calls and allows you to text. But, be aware the Iphone costs 30 extra bucks per month. If you have it for the usual 2 year contract, it'll cost you over 700 bucks, on top of the 200 you already spent.

Basically, theyre the same thing. Just, one makes calls and the other does. The Ipod Touch's applications, however, cost nothing per month to use.

It all comes down to what you need from a device. Some people just need an mp3 player, or just a thing to watch movies on. Than the price comes into play. Because, if you want an iPod Touch with 32 gig, or 16, than it's usually more costly than the brand with less functions. Still, the battery-life is impressive and it's one of the touchscreen mp3 players with the best screen sensitivity.

Unbeatable? One word: itunes.

Ya, totally depends on what you need it for, as well as how much you hate iTunes. It's an impressive device to be sure, but the price/perfomance ratio depends on how much beyond 'playing mp3s' you are using it for. As an MP3 player, it's absurdly overpriced.

I'd disagree - at a resolution of 480-by-320-pixel that's just an SD TV picture, and with a display size of 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen I'd much rather have (believe it or not) a TV. At least I can actually see what's onscreen!

Whatever happened to all those people a couple of years ago bashing apple/ipods for no apparant reason?

Most of the features seem pretty pointless to me, why the hell would you watch movies on it? unless its one of those 'surpise your friends with scat pr0n' situations.

Still, it'd be nice to have. so shiny.

I don't bash Apple for no reason, I bash them for producing medium quality products at premium-quality prices.
With the new Apple computers being upgradeable, I think they've taken a major step forward, but with the iPhone in particular - locked into a single provider, software updates that lock the phone if you've modded it etc. - they're showing exactly the attitude I despise them for.
I've yet to hear an iPod that sounds better than a standard-range mp3 player - and video quality (or otherwise) is a non-issue for me, there's nothing that will get me wanting to watch TV/Movies on a screen of less than 20"

Being able to watch movies makes my daily trip in the train 10 times more enjoyable and less a waste of time. Yes, I don't find watching tv a waste of time I don't have an iPod touch though. For me, leisurely watching a comedy on a 2.5 inch screen of the iPod classic works just fine.

i agree to a certain point about the built-in headphone amp and the included ibuds, i never use them. i use a 3rd-party LOD and a portable amp w/UE's SF5 Pro's. check out head-fi.org, link is in my sig. "Sorry about your wallet." rings quite true there.

as for movies, i only saw Blazing Saddles on iTunes store. waiting for Young Frankenstein to make its appearance. haven't purchased anything yet, personal funds are kinda tight at the moment.

For my comedy fix I'll stick to listening to radio shows - old and new - the comedy is funnier, better crafted and much longer lasting

I love both of mine

Believe me, I've tried em all. The touch rules, if only for the navigation of the music alone. Add to that a very capable web browsing, email, TV watchin, pandora streaming machine and it's almost always on doing something in my pocket.

BOTH!? Two 32 GBs or something?

But yeah, this machine is unbelievable. Like I called it earlier, it's an "everything device." I'm surprised nobody has made an Application which lets the damn thing give you a clean shave and shower in the morning.

By itself, with no applications, it has: Internet, Calendar, E-Mail, Address Book, YouTube, Google Maps, Stock Watcher, Weather, Clock, Calculator (Both normal and scientific), and a Notebook. I have 500 songs, many episodes of House MD, and tons of photos.

Aside from that, mine has replaced my car stereo. And, I have many paint programs on it, Facebook, AIM, a NFL score tracker, and roughly 20 games. Most of which, were entirely free. For the sheer hell of it, I can scroll through NYC traffic cams. Why did I get that Application? Because I can.

Even if they ever make an Application which makes the device explode, I'll get that, too. Again, because I can.

And all for 200 dollars? Not even Angel_Mapper can find fault in that.
