Nvidia GeForce 8800GT

Just thought I'd mention a new entry into the Nvidia video card field, the 8800GT since everyone is looking to upgrade. This card looks like maximum bang for the buck right now.

It's an upgraded GPU with some nice features; most notably the 65nm structure. It outperforms the 8800GTS (320MB or 640MB versions) as well as the ATI 2900. In some tests it beats the 8800GTX. It has 512MBs of video ram and is going to be priced at $200-$250. There will be higher end versions of it out later (which will probably make the 8800GTX and Ultra look old.)

I gather ATI has a new challenger coming soon too (although given the under-performance of the current 2400-2900 cards from them you have to wonder).

Also, the 8800GTS Rev2 is suppose to release as well (November 14?) which is just basically a superior 8800GT with 1024GB (or so the rumors say).

The new design is just so sexy.

If the GTS Rev2 results look really good I may have to use EVGA's step-up program.

It is a great program when it comes to stock cards, but its disappointing that they do not cover special editions like the OC versions, water-blocks, or even the KO ACS.

Anyway, can not wait to see the G-92 GTX/Ultra versions.

Some people where having trouble b/c the GTS "cost more" than the GT. Others were just out the 30-50$ more they paid for their GTS than the GT. Depends who you talk to I guess

I don't know that I'll buy the GT because the results aren't killer enough for me to go without a new card for the time it takes them to replace it, but if the new GTS kicks ass I might.

All the companies are making nice advertisements on the 8800GT, but its nice to see a card have some personality.

I wanted to buy this for my new build, and I actually had a lot of luck finding vendors. PNY, EVGA, or their products from Newegg, Tigerdirect, even Amazon. Of course, none of them actually have cards to sell you, but they're more than happy to call them "soon to be in stock" and take your money. Kind of looked funny when the shopping cart for Nov. 8 has an ETA of Dec. 14. I Had to bag it and buy the 8600 GT, but I'm still pining for this card.
