F1 British Grand Prix 2007 (contains very wide image ...)

Where do I start?

Oh yeah - I was there!

My second year as a spectator marshall, this year we kept the snatch gates (track access) closed down the Hangar Straight on Friday, and were on Mobile on Saturday.
Mobile means that you sit in the middle waiting for another team to need help, and then get sent over there. Even worse, you can't see any of the track
Then we had a call - there was some broken fencing that could turn into a problem on race day - especially if there was an incident (i.e. crash) at turn one - so we went over there to check it out.
Finally we finished the day off, stood in a tunnel guiding the paying (p*ssed) public to the right, to prevent them smashing into each other! Again, no view of the track.
Not the most exciting of days, but still good.

Today we went back to Copse (the first corner) and had to man the damaged fence to prevent anyone jumping over to get to a stranded driver/car.
As no-one crashed, that meant we had the whole day stood with one eye on the crowd, trackside of the fences, with a fantastic view of the end of the start/finish/pit straight and the first few corners.

You can't even buy that view!

No pictures allowed when you're on post, so I'll see if I can get some caps off the TV footage to illustrate where I was tomorrow.

I'm off to bed now - see y'all soon

Quick composite I knocked UP using Google Maps to show you my rather decent view of the start!

Thumbs up

Silverstone is one of my favourites, a classic Euro speed circuits. I'm, glad Ecclestone hasn't managed to remove it from the calendar.

It was a good race this year too.

Couple of shots of where the other half of the team were ...

We were on top of this bridge (call "Bridge", strangely!) for the race last year.
Couldn't see anything unless you were on a break, but you glimpse the cars through the bridge as they blast by about 8' under your feet!

The noise is incredible!

Renault have really lost their way this year which is a shame. The more competition at the front of the field the better, in my opinion.

You're not wrong there.
Would have been nice to see Lewis really fighting with Kimi for the whole race, but when you combine a botched pitstop with a bad wing adjustment he blew his whole race in one go. He took responsibility himself, though, which a lot of drivers don't (*cough* Ralf *cough*) and hopefully has learned from it.

Posted a new picture, it's of me so I stuck it in the Post your picture thread.

Yep, and it looks like after Kimi going two for two, Ferrari are back on song.
