The world has just decided to kick me in the face and awaken me from my blizzfull and harmonic dream I call life.
Some time ago I started hearing rumors about some of my mates trying out drugs. They've always been into risky and adventurous stuff but I never thought they'd go this far. I didn't pay much attention to it at first, simply dismissing it as something that would go away, they were probably just trying something new just this time and wouldn't touch that stuff again. I was wrong. How long has passed since then? A month? More perhaps? How long had they been taking frugs before I heard of it? I don't know. Ever since I started highschool I've been meeting them all the more seldom since we now go to different schools. About a week ago I met one of them at the supermarket and we had a long and good conversation about old times all the way to his place. We then parted ways and I went home to my own place. It felt just like old times. I just got back off MSN with the same guy, I think it was the most frightening conversation I've ever had in my entire life. I didn't recognize him at all, he was completely different. It all started off prety normal with him sending me a few tracks of various death metal bands (He's been trying to make me listen to that stuff for years. ;p ) and asking me what I thought about them. Then he suddenly started talking about "life, society and the universal non-existant truth." He talked about how there was no truth in the world, the meaning of life and how importat it was that I held on to things that made me happy. I can't say I haven't been thinking about those things myself but he's not the kind of person to bring something like that up. He also said something about "It used to be our world, but they stole it from us", whatever that's supposed to mean. In any case, as you can imagine, I freaked out and realized this has gone way too far. They're great people. I love and respect them as my friends, and I don't want to see them redused to junkies. I've also heard rumors from a reliable source that one of them were taking antidepressive drugs before this begun to counter depression. I know some of my mates share my oppinion in this and I'm going to find out just who does, so we can band together and convince the othes to drop this bull**** before it gets really bad. I know I should probably talk to their parents instead of making a stupid post about it on a forum, but by doing so I feel like I betray them at the same time. I'm not really sure what I expect to get from all this, but if you think you could help me in some kind of way by information or general hints I'd be very greatful. That is all. |

I might actually be able to help on this one. To me it sounds as though i'm in a similar position to your friend (though i'm 16, i dont know how old you guys are), but without knowing him i can't say.
What you have to remember is people do actually change a helluva lot on their own. Its likely that hes changed not as a result of drugs. Also, it depends on what drugs hes decided to get himself into. And i don't reccomend talking to his parents, seriously. That wont help, you have to confront him yourself. Plus gettin' somones parents involved in something like this will probobly make things a whole lot worse for everyone. I'll come up with more to say but i've gotta think about it first respond via pm if you like ![]() ps. Death metal ftw

Sorry to hear about your buddies. Well, since it bugs you that much that they do drugs, sit them down with a few people and have an intervention of some sort, where you all explain why you don't like this person when they are on the drug, or just don't like the thoughts of your buddy being a drugie. They may understand or they may not. But it's worth a shot.
BTW, Black metal > Death metal. ![]() But I still loves my death metal! |

That's a real tough situation that got thrown at you Meany, im not exactly sure what i would do either. I don't suggest pulling the plug on them and talking to parent/cops etc., because you'll still want the non drugie version of them as your friend. i agree with kyle, have an intervention with some other friends, or have a talk with them yourself about it. depending on what they're taking and how addicted they are they might not listen to you the first time, but keep bringing it up, stop them on their way to school, etc. i wish you the best of luck with this, losing friends sucks

Thank's for the support guys, you make me feel more confident about this. I'm gonna clean out my inbox in case some of you want to send me PM's.
Oh, and me and my mates are 18 years old. One is 19, but he's sharing my view on the problem. Eira, It may be true what you say about people changin gall the time. Now when I think about it, I've heard rumors about him being very open and philosophical at times, especially when he's drunk. It's just that I've never heard him talk of that kind of stuff before and it freaked me out. Perhaps this hasn't gone really as far as I fear it has, but I'm still not comfortable with the situation. I'll find a way to talk to them, somehow... |

Welcome to the stage of the epic tale of life brother Mortal.
I can understand this must be hard for you to see but when time changes so do people. People have bad times in life and turn to things they shouldn't to try and feel more alive!! Sometimes they do it because friends do it or to simply experiment! At the ages your pals are at this is more likely to be an experimental stage of life. Everybody goes through emotional changes - even more so in the mid to late teens/early twenties. It's about developing into your own self! EVERYbody handles these emotions in different ways, that's what makes things interesting. Use my experience for an example of the many stories out there.... I hit my teens a bit of a tearaway, smoking tobacco at the age of 13, that was just the start of my teens, things just escalated from there. I was very much into soft end illegal drugs by the time I was 16. I'm ashamed to say this carried on even when I found out I was to be a father. That just added to my emotional strain, what was the answer? Drink and more drugs. I was an absolute train wreck of a person from the age of 14 to 19. Had you been talking to me on MSN back then I would have said some very scary stuff. Intervention from those close to me often made me feel more determined to rebel! Always let friends know you're there for them and let them know what your opinions are....don't try and change them though, they'll find themselves and where they want to be. It's all part of life. Be cool and be safe brother. ![]() |

Dude, I'd suggest step one is to find out for yourself if he's doing drugs. Sounds very possible, but sometimes people do just change.
If he's on anti-depressants (prescription, I mean) then just having a friend he can rant off to will help. If he's on "the bad stuff" then having someone he trusts, who disapproves but doesn't judge him will help him sort out what he really wants. If he really wants to do drugs, you can't stop him, but if he's doing it to "be cool" then you may be able to help. Just try and hang with him a bit more, make sure he knows there are better options, and better friends, and hope you can guide him. Ultimately, if it becomes a problem you may have to choose between keeping his trust and his friendship and watching his life go down the toilet, or tell his parents and saving his life whilst risking losing his friendship. At that stage only you can decide, but we'll still be here to try and help out. Good Luck.

I'm not sure what to say here... in my own experience, putting that towards what you typed up there... I don't see where 'drugs' come into play. Also, 'drugs' is very vague. Theres a difference between smoking some grass and pulling out your needle kit, yanno? I'd be worried about my friends if they were hitting hard stuff on a regular basis, but from what you described, I've had conversations like that with people completely sober on a number of occasions.
I recommend calmly looking into it a bit further, if your worried, talk to them directly. Don't go to the parents unless they are shooting heroine into their scrotum or something. Exaggeration's are fun, but you get what I mean. Out of high school, people change a lot. Develop as individuals, form opinions, political lines, ect. It's all very normal, insert your opinion here, but so is the drug experimentation. Keep an eye out, but don't hit the panic button I'd say.

I'm pretty damn sure they ARE doing drugs. They've been talking openly about it with me and my mates, one of them actually told me I should try it out sometime. I do admit however, that I'm not sure exactly what they are taking, how much and how often. From the sounds of it, they've been trying different kinds of pills, weed and mushrooms. I don't think they've gone into heroine, but I can't really tell.
Mickey, I'm sorry about what happened in your teens, hopefully this won't go as far. I'm going to dig some deeper into this to see exactly where they stand right now. Again, thank you all for taking your time. |
