Pueblo doctor, one of a few who helped rescue stranded woman
The Pueblo doctor, Dr. Khosla, who we showed you on live T.V., swimming out to rescue a woman in Saturday night's floodwaters was the first one to reach her. Khosla says he and his family saw her drive right into the water. When that happened he says he knew he had to try to save her.
The woman inside the car is Charlene Deherrera. It only took few minutes for her SUV to start sinking in 10-feet of water. Dr. Khosla was the fist man swimming out to rescue here, he was the one in the video trying to break it to get Deherrera out. He explains how he was feeling, "I gotta tell you I was putting a lot of force and I was getting nowhere. And I just was frustrated and the woman was actually, I believe at that point toward the back of the car and she had her hands in there and she was screaming at me. And so I could see this poor person and I was frustrated because I couldn't get anything done." Eventually several people swam out to help, and the woman was pulled from the car. There is a sign telling of flooded road there but do they read the sign no. http://www.koaa.com/video/news/index...t=news&id=5569 Storm's effects linger for some Power, phone outtages, electrical hazards continue to plague Puebloans. By NICK BONHAM THE PUEBLO CHIEFTAIN Charity Collins, 88, and her daughter Beverly, 62, were grocery shopping Saturday night when high winds and rain brought a large tree branch crashing down in her back yard, severing power and telephone lines to her West Side home. The two do not know the exact time they lost power, but it was during the 90-minute storm that pounded Pueblo Saturday night and left about 10,000 Puebloans powerless. http://www.chieftain.com/metro/1156835521/9 Storm sweeps through Pueblo Rain, high wind lash area, flood streets and trap city motorists By PETER ROPER and JEFF TUCKER THE PUEBLO CHIEFTAIN A hurricane-like storm lashed the Pueblo region Saturday evening with 3 inches of rain that trapped motorists in streets that had turned into rivers, damaged store roofs and tore down tree limbs and power lines as if they were cobwebs. No one was killed in the storm - but that was only because Pueblo County Sheriff deputies and city police officers, along with firefighters, rescue crews and citizens dove into flood waters to save motorists from drowning as their vehicles sank in rising waters. Gusts up to 69 mph were reported. http://www.chieftain.com/metro/1156654800/1 I had around half an inch of rain at my house in Beulah plus maybe some snow rather than hail i wasn't home at the time so the snow is on the maybe side of things. |
