Reversing the flow of life

Damn PC... Got a question.
Anyone ever have trouble with random freezing when you're playing online? It seems to only happen online for me. It doesn't really seem like a ping spike, because when that happens, wierd things just happen, it doesn't freeze. It actually seems like it's getting worse, but it may just be that it's worse with certain maps? I think it might be an OpenGL issue since I don't think that ever happened to me with the D3D drivers, but it seems to only happen online, and I don't want to go back to the D3D drivers because it runs twice as fast using OpenGL. I have a GeForce2 and I'm in Win2000................. Help! It's really getting to be a problem.

FBMachine,
I would try a couple of things First, Do you have a UT Cache Organizer program? if Not, Get one, Phanataz has one that is Awsome. We will go there later. Go to C: UT folder, in there at the bottom below the folders are usually Log Files, .tmp safe to delete. Top folder is Cache, all can be safely deleted. 3rd Down Log Folder, same Delete. Ok, Now, You want to remove any older versions of UT Pure in the UT System folder. They are dated and the latest ones should be; BP1Handlera2.u BP4Handlera2.u UTPureRCa2.u Remove all the older versions, ( you can save them if you want in another folder, Cut and Paste.) Try defrag hard drive and see if that helps out. Next time you start and get an online game up hit ~ and type in STAT NET it will bring up a few stats that may be useful. PIng, Packet Loss%, Net Speed. The only problem is they are right in the chat window, makes either one hard to read at times. How do you connect on line? Cable/DSL?

Good god! There was ~300mb in cache and temp files! Even if it doesn't help my problem, thanks for bringing that to my attention. If it doesn't work I'll try that stat net thing next time I'm playing to see if there is anything funky going on. I'm on a cable line, it's actually quite reliable and fast since I live in a crappy neighborhood and no one else around me has it.
Thanks for the help.Dan |

Cool, Me to, kinda crappy hood.
if you see a problem in the stat net data, dont freak out, it should show your 'Net Speed to be at 10,000. Sometimes it will cause problems that High, I have mine set between 3500 and 5000 depending on the server and ping. To change it, hit ~ type netspeed 4000 and it will switch to that value, then watch for packet loss, and problems. Adjust as needed. any Problems I will help if I can. Thanks, Mo
