I'm noticing that the largest percentage of them are Disney movies. I am in total shock. Oh, yes; totally flabbergasted that Disney would attempt to remake or sequel so many of their movies from 20+ years ago. [/sarcasm]

At least I won't be tempted to see any of these remakes / sequels. Nearly the whole list is comprised of movies that either don't need remakes or don't deserve them. The only notable exception I'm making is Sweeney Todd, but it's more of an issue of not being known, so being remade will garner interest in the story.

Some of those are questionable as "remakes":

A lot of the films mentioned were adapted from books, musicals, serials or others.

There is the Casino Royale exemption, in which the original was a spoof on a the Bond movie genre... which was adapted from a novel. The novel is now be given "real" bond treatment.

There are sequels on that list as well...

Here is the list of "abominable" remakes. Those movies that are classic that should not be redone:

Easy Rider
Footloose
The Night of the Iguana
The Warriors

As well as I'm kind of torn on the Man who Fell to Earth. The movie is also based on a novel, but I believe it's sacrimonious for anyone to try redo the '77 Cocaine-era Bowie version.

Man, that list is aweful. Those movies DONT need to be redone!

The entertainment industry, be it music, movies, games whatever are all TRYING to go down in a pillar of flame.

The media companies have totally ****ed up.

Game companies: Sequels = money! Quality is not as important as graphics. Pump em out, pay the bills.

Music: Its not the quality of the music thats the problem, its the fact that users arent paying for each song, every time they hear it, anytime, anyway.

Movies: Low attendance in the theatures? rentals crawling along? DVDs not being sold? Its not the high prices, the low quality, or the horrible DRM software. Its the dang pirates! What we need to do is release MORE movies, faster than the pirates can steal them, and quickly and cheaply remake every movie that used to be a classic. Also, give Uwe boll 100 more bajillion dollars to make movies.

Seeing this makes me think about the dynamics in play here:

The portion of the movie budget that's dedicated to writing is not huge. (And even re-writing a script takes a writer and costs money)
The profits made on these movies aren't really that different from the average take on original stories. (It's not like they are a guaranteed winner)

So, why are the studios so in love with remakes? As a business decision, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Unless you consider that it may not be the cost of good original story as it is the availability of it.
That's why I'm working my third screenplay atm.

Amen. Now lets go tie Uwe Boll to a bed, and threaten to tickle him to death if he doesn't stop making movies THIS INSTANT.

Did anyone really even enjoy the first blob?

If anything, just re-release the damn movies. Im sure people would be happier if they just went and saw the same old ones over and over rather than watching craptastic remakes. Craptastic.. hmm.. i like that word.

Classic books indeed. Classic movies? I'd have to disagree with you there.

Never saw the Abominable Snowman. Might be interesting if the production values are quality. Think I'll see the original first anyway before seeing a remake that possibly just ruins the whole idea.

A very strange list. I do not put any faith in most of the movies mentioned there.

I'm actually looking forward to a few of these. I'd like to see a well-done "Creature From The Black Lagoon" remake, and I'll likely go see "Day of the Dead" if it's done by the same folks who recently redid "Dawn". Also, "Friday the 13th" would be on my to-see list.

I guess it's just the bad horror movie fan in me.
