Well, Google is coming out with a new service called Google Base (where do they get these names?). Its basically an online classifieds, with some good indexing and searching. It looks like it'll compete with services like Craigslist and eBay, although it doesn't offer any auction services. It's recently gone live, and the link is http://base.google.com

I checked it out, and it doesn't seem as easy to find what you're looking for as I'd hoped. I type in "road bicycle" as a search, and it comes up with stuff in the "jobs" category when asking me if I want to refine my search. Its got some neat features, that lets you search for items that are in your area, and some of the problems finding what you're looking for could be because people are still noobs with getting the right tags for their item. Overall, its got promise, but I wish they layed out the categories more like the real classifieds in the newspaper, I'd find it much easier to browse then.
