UT99 Screen Resolution Advice
1280 X 1024
This is the highest i can set my resolution from the preferences video windows. However on my other computer...the one i map with i can only set the resolution to 1280 by (i forget) 780 or something? How come??? There is no 1280 X 1024 option. I need that. If anyone knows how come one install has it and one does not or how i can get the other computer to accept this higher screen resolution I would be very happy and appreciative for the help. Thanks for your time. Tex

Hmmm here is a shot of my online computer that the highest setting is 1280 by 1024. The other computer only goes to the 1280 by 768.
Maybe it has to do with the display settings?? I will fiddle around with the display setting tomorrow and see if it changes the UT options. Thanks Cobra. I need to go to bed now tho...I'll be back tomorrow and check on this thread and see if there are more responses.

What I do when I wanna have a higher resoloution (I can only play in 1280 x 768 too) is change from d3d to software where my resoloution can go up to 1600 x something
. . . select the highest one I can get, play the map for a bit and then change back to d3d. . .it stays at 1600 or whatever. But once you change the res again to something lower you'll lose the other options and have to do it again the next time you want to.Does that help? |

I think that you are right. It make sence, but I whas playing in 3d, whit the 1600x???? but it whas to little I mean's the names, and all. So I swicht back to 1024x768 me I like that resolution. Not to small, and not to big. I'm not a expert on that but I think that it is your monitor, that show you the highes it can take. Maby I'm wrong, but try whit L.J.Paranoid just said,I think it will work, but again is it the monitor whou is saying that you can't go higher? ![]()

You might also be able to set it manually in the ini file?
That's a guess, so make sure you back it up first.

You can set it manually in the UnrealTournament.ini file.
Search for FullscreenViewportX= and adjust that to your width, then on the next line, set FullscreenViewportY= as the height. It appears you want FullscreenViewportX=1280 FullscreenViewportY=1024 I've had this problem myself.

Okay thanks everyone. I just got this new monitor and i use it for both computers so it was wierd that one allowed that resolution and the other didn't. I will go try to fix the problem and get rid of these terrible in map visuals. In the editor everything looks great and then when i get in the game everything looks horrible.
I'll go see what happens tonight and come back and tell y'all how it went. Thanks again.

Well..i forgot to come back and say thanks it worked. I tried LJ's idea first since it was first on the list and it worked like a charm. Even my uglt textures came back to life.
Thanks everyone. I am too much of a computer noob to play with the ini files unless i really have to...lol but i will keep that in mind if i decide to keep this setting forever. But thank you everyone LJ,Cobra,Deadmeat, and Lunar Bunny. I was beginning to wonder if my birthday monitor was good or not. lol

Don't worry about .ini files - they're just a text file.
Save a copy, then open it in notepad, and play to your heart's desire. If it all goes pear-shaped, just overwrite the messed-up file with the copy of the original ![]()

Well...as long as I have this thread..I have another recent problem with my origional UT install that i have had forever.
I have been playing online(something i never have done before because of dial up) on Frag Fridays and i now have a problem with my UT. When i try to start a practice session it tries to connect to the internet and on one beta deredok2rots beta....it would not open the map and said connection failed. Although it opened up fine in the editor. And i have also gotten other betas that work fine. Anyone know what is causing my UT to try to connect to the internet and or server when i am just trying to play a practice session????

My problem is that my monitor will do 1280x1024 but my Voodoo2 video card's maximum resolution capability is only 800x600 so 800x600 is as high as mine will go and I usually play at 640x480 to gain about 2 or 3 frames per second more. As for your UT trying to connect to the internet I have no idea about that. I know how the UScript works but I have always been saying that I don't know how to code things to work on a server and everytime I script something someone asks "why doesn't this work on a server?" and I have to say......"dunno". Case in point, niX just informed me the day before yesterday that my footstep trigger actors that you put in your map doesn't work online. I've been working on that problem for 2 full days straight now with absolutely no luck. By the looks of it the server always runs pretty much every piece of script but the clients do basically nothing but render a scene, trace a projectile, and update life points, armor points, etc, but not run most functionality-crucial code!. So as of this post I'm resigning my ability as a UScript consultant here at UP since 999 times out of 1000 people also want things to work while playing on a server. LoL That's where my area of expertise completely and totally dies! Anyway I gave up trying to play on UP's S1 Tex because the last time I did I had to redo most of my keybindings and I don't want to have to do that again. It even got rid of the bindings I use to move forward and backward and such! I was a setting duck so to speak. ![]() Cheerz

If I were any good at playing on servers I might think about joining but alas I'm not. Yes. It seems that when I tried a bunch of stuff on a server I was using a listen server where you can play a game from the server side and it *seemed* like things were working okay but when I tried a dedicated server then tried connecting to that server as a client it no worky! LoL I tried everything I know about replication like sending variables and functions to the client, adding the word "simulated" to the functions, changing the Role and RemoteRole of the actor to ROLE_SimulatedProxy to no avail. A common function that I use all the time called "Timer()" can be set with the command "SetTimer(PlaceFloatingPointHere, PlaceBooleanHere)" will set the Timer() function to loop or not loop according to "PlaceBooleanHere" and will loop "PlaceFloatingPointHere" seconds per loop but it seems that the Timer() function cannot be made to run *AT ALL* on a client's machine. It will only run on the server. So I That gets rid of about 45% to 50% of my options when trying to code something if I can't use the Timer() function. ![]() Edit: Oh I forgot that the first thing I tried was to set bAlwaysRelevant=true, bGameRelevant=true, and bHidden=false so I could see if the actor was getting destroyed on the clients machine but found that it was not getting destroyed but still was not running the Timer() function which contains about 90% of the functionality of the actor. ![]() So in summary I'm at a total loss as to how to make the client's machine run the Timer() function and there may be a whole slew of other functions that cannot be made to run on a client's machine and that would probably make scripting something a fruitless venture if it will not work online.
