You could do it with panning textures, or with mesh emitters.
You'll need to use a panned texture for the ground and probably sides, and you can use the mesh emitters for thing like grass and trees to fly past.

Check out the UT2003 map i did called DM-Nighttrain for a similar themed map and you'll get the idea.

i remember that map, it owned... so yea, ill download that map, check out the settings, and speed the train up.... i like the insane fastness of the old high speed, but i still give your map an 8/10, i took off 2 points because a) it didnt move quick enough, and b) there is a sign that says "all your base our belong to us" and that offends my native people

he he he

Yeah, defiantely speed it up, can't have a map with the name high speed, that's chugging along slowly.
Feel free to use the meshes in the map if you need them, i know the inside ones are probably no good, but you could use the ground and tracks and wheels maybe?

BTW, i played invasion not long ago on DM-NightTrain, and ROFLMAO. It was like playing Goldeneye with the critters in every carraige

invasion owns, so so bad....except on Morpheus, ...for obvious reasons.

ty for granting me permission to use some of that stuff... in the ResidentEvil Hive map i was makin, it was kinda hard to find a good rail road texture....

and yes, the resident evil one has the train depot thingy, and thats what inspired me to make a train level really quick... hopefully a) i will finish them this time... and b) my computer wont die, killing everything

You may also want to crack open Convoy, which gives the illusion of trains speeding along a desert terrain.

Send a message via ICQ to Donator
Convoy uses an extremely special skybox, where the camera is attached to a mover and rotates through a ring-like terrain valley. If you speed it up you will quickly notice that the convoy is actually going in circles So this solution won't work for a fast moving train.

I figured that was it, I couldn't think of any other way they could have the mountains going by.

either fast terrain or a fast skybox, whichever is easiest =)

On second thought.... Simeon, how do u get the textures to move really fast? Because i like that way better, but if all else fails, i can just make a skybox to zoom really fast

You must make new textures if you want 'em to go fast, or you could make an emitter. If you look under FireEngine.utx adn at the buttom I think you can find very fast movig water textures.. Use it as an example! Look for a texture tutorial.. maybe you'll find some here! Btw. why not use the train track mesh in the DespFallenCity.usx package?!

Just make a new texture in the browser, name it -
MyLevel
Texpanner (or something like that

Scroll down the list until you find texpanner, click new.
Find a good texture to add to the tex panner. Then you can adjust the pan rate, direction etc in the tex panner properties

hahaha, sucess! ...but i did it a diff way! ...you know how u make the animated lvl previews? well i did it like that, but i chose show instead of fade, and made it VERY fast, so now we got moving textures...

Edit: NEVERMIND! When you actually PLAY the level, the moving texture isnt normal, its like .0001 times the size it should be
