Heh.......the man is one of the best hitters in the game, probably the hardest working player in the history of baseball, and he's not let into the hall of fame, as a player, because he bet on the game after his career was over, as a coach of a baseball team.
I dunno, seems like there's something hidden underneath that hatred for Rose other than he gambled.....a rule's a rule, yes, but come on....have some common sense Hankie. =/ Considering the stuff I've heard that other hall of famers have done....Rose's gambling is minor. Heh, so goes the world of spoiled fame. $100 says that Rose is finally reinstated and accepted into the Hall of Fame.....after his death. =P EDIT: Of course, he did accept a lifetime ban from the game...don't know the specifics, but suppose a rule's a rule. =P Granted, his apology was probably insincere, as it would be after keeping your apology for 20 years......but I still think he deserves a spot in the hall of fame. Yea, it's kind of absurd to think that the all-time hits leader isn't in the HoF. I think the reinstatement is inevitable but he's still going to struggle to get in. From what I've heard, when he does, if he can't get voted in by the writers he can forget it. The Veteran Com. isn't going to let him in.
You're right P6, it sure is about other than the gambling. At this point it's his piss-poor attitude and imo utter disrespect for the game. I agree with most of what Hank says except that part about he should never get in. I also think money is as big of a reason for him wanting in than the honor itself. I can't blame him for that I guess but it's a combination of everything that just seems lame. Posthumously would be my vote. He's gotta end up there eventually. |

After three years of living in Cinci- I don't believe he belongs. He has repeatedly displayed an utter contempt for the heart of the game and I don't think he's being contrite. I can't be convinced that he didn't bet WHILE playing... if he gets in, they better put Shoeless Joe in first... and I agree, wait until he's dead.

I was for his induction until his book came out and I watched him do many interviews and still not coming clean.
At this point I believe he placed bets for/against his own team. And can someone get him an anti-static mat to stand on?

Rose stats:http://www.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/st...layerID=121454
Now, one cannot argue about the career totals. But having the most all-time hits doesn't make him the best hitter, or even top 10 best hitters. Rose had longevity, and played hard. Rose lacked power, on base percentage, had average speed and a decent fielder. Hank Aaron was a better player, as was T. Williams, B. Ruth, L. Gehrig, S. Musial, J. Jackson, M. Schmidt, T. Cobb, etc... Rose wasn't as good as he thinks he was. But, he was good. I'm not saying he wasn't. He would be a first ballot HOFer. If he only had 3,867 hits, none of this would be that big a deal. Dale Murphy for Hall Of Fame!!!!!! nice guys finish last. |

i dont watch baseball, but could someone explain the hall of fame to me?
cos surely, if he's the guy with the most home runs EVER then he should definitely be in the Hall Of Fame, regardless of his activities outwith the sport. as i say, i do not know the where-to's and the why-fore's, so could someone explain the rules to me? then i'll be able to have an educated opinion ![]()

Basically, it's baseball's top honor. Requires great on field performance over a career. |
