two questions [zone portals and textures]
I read at several forums some comments about smeshes protruding through zone portals - that it may cause problems. Since more or less every wall opening has smesh for periphery deco, I find this statemets a bit ridiculus. Nonetheless, I'm asking if anyone had any problems regarding this issue.
Second thing: is there any possible means to pinpoint texture location - I have found that my map uses severely high amount of resources due to texture usage; some textures are only used about a couple of times and I plan to eliminate them, the only problem now is to find them in the level... BTW, I forgot what "texture cull" command does, if it's still present in the new engine. |

Question #1: Meshes prtruding through a zone portal may accept the zone lighting from the other zone causing them to become improperly lit. I had a mesh partially in a brightly lit lava ppol, the mesh took on the bright light from the lava pool and looked out of place in the dark room it was in.
Questions #2: You can do a replace in the Texture browser. Find the texture you want to replace add it in the "find" box, find the texture you want to use, add it to the "Replace With" with box, hit "Replace" and that texture is gone from the map. Question #3: At the moment I cannot recall exactly what the Texture Cull does. I have not had cause to use it.

Thanks. I was fingering with the idea of using texture replace; the only problem is I fear I might not find the texture anyway - prolly betatesters will have to report anything weird
It seems texture cull is obsolete - engine imidiately removes the texture I stop using. EDIT1: There is no texture replacement tool in the new editor. EDIT2: texture cull still has effect - it removes textures on BSP that are not in use; those used only as mesh skins or materials are removed automatically. Alive or just breathing?

There IS a texture replacement tool in the new editor. It just isn't in the main editor window, it's in the Edit menu of the texture browser. It works like it did before, but has two additional options, Level only and actors only... go figure

There is something else I would like to know, but won't open a new thread for it: can antiportals cross each other i.e., for example, if I cross two antiportals, does that affect their occlusion abilities anyhow?

I did it, and it doesn't seem to affect them negatively. Just keep in mind that they each has to touch substracted space.
