CTF-Aelerus BETA

Right, after slaving over this unforgiving wretch of a map for umpteen months now, I've finally succumbed to the temptation and have now released CTF-Aelerus as a Beta.

And just to prove that I really am insane, here's the link here...

http://www.unrealplayground.com/download.php?mapid=2879

Direct all suggestions/criticisms to this thread, if you will.

NOTE: THIS MAP REQUIRES RICHRIG.UTX AND THE UT BONUS PACK 4

The zip file is already over 2.0 megs and that's just the map, a readme and a screenshot.

Things I have yet to do:

- Add more light sources/fittings
- Adjust lighting
- Add more ambient sounds
- Select a music track
- Zones
- Tweak paths
- Add a bit more detail to the boring bits
- Do... stuff...

I need comments on layout, flow, gameplay issues, item placement, FPS probs, texture use and whether my butt looks big in this.

To whet your quickly diminishing appetites, here's a few low quality screenies...

Very nice stuff!

The jump pads near center-- too much forward motion, you nick the wall going up. A couple of longish corridors might be a bit hard on the FC though not terrible so-- needs more weapons points and more ammo. More health as it's fairly large.

Lots of fun hammer jump opportunities!

Don't forget to include Richrig in the final zip.

And: (LOL-- that should say "nice" not "nive")

It's good of you to make more UT maps

Map looks good and played well for me.

I like the layout..the top drop down for FC and 3 ways into the flagroom, makes for an on your toes game.

Since it has the 3 ways in and it has 2 perches, maybe make that one perch per flagroom just so the EFC has a chance in & out of the base?

Tech stuff, well I'm sure it's coming your way..never fear

Oh, my team mate Athena called me a loser

- Add more ambient sounds

he he.
Nice map, lots of alt paths and Z-axis, very nice. Not enough flakk cannons though, you should have one every 12 or so feet.

Apart from the other comments you've got, the coronas look wierd. Like its a very small corona texture, and the edges are pixelating. Heres a pic.

Thanks for the comments, mateys. This'll be my last chance to comment for a bit, so...

Hort-->
The jump pads were a temporary thing... they'll be adjusted.
I haven't really started placing the ammo yet, only for a couple of weapons... don't worry, there'll be plenty of blammage.
Ditto on the health.
And that bit under the pipes will be blocked off, have no fear.
As for the piston jump bits... good idea, will implement.

SoBe-->
Good call with the perch... might fill the space with some sort of machine/boiler etc.

Simeon-->
Right, I'm getting rid of all the flak cannons right this minute. That'll teach yer
Seriously though, I didn't notice the corona prob on my rig. Can you suggest a texture that'll look good on everyone's machines?

Once again, cheers for the quick replies, and as soon as I get the chance, I'll go back to fiddling in the editor.

Ciao for now, brown cows!

most of the coronas in GenFX are awesome.
I particularly like flare2, and have used it almost exclusively in most of my UT maps.

Might have to brush the cobwebs of my Ued 2.0 aswell.
We should have another UP UT mapping comp....hint hint Horton.
Get a bit of juice back into the UT world.

I made a demo of running around in the map.

I may have found a few lift jumps or other stuff you may not have realised were possible. Then again, maybe not. Either way, it will show you a bit of how the map plays, and what I like about it.

There are many hiding spots, but they are hard to get to, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I really like it so far. Has some major potential.

Here's where the demo is. I named it aelerus1.

cool bananas. Maybe you should let Freakish handle the details then, so you can enter aswell.
Maybe have another 24H comp, as most people re-edit there creations to iron out the bugs afterwards = a load of great maps.

sorry, the corona nit picking was wrong.
Somehow, my UT had jumped into software rendering, thus rendering everything in a shade of awful.

With openGL back on, the coronas look great.

Beest! A really good map! I like so many things about it. The architecture and textures are well integrated, and with the snowy outdoors kinda made me feel like putting on a jacket when I was checkin it. I would only suggest more light. I am in complete 360 blackness in a lot of spots.
All in all though-

cheers
