Yeah I saw it.

My girlfriend is Asian and she loved it. You get to see Asian Amercian characters represented somewhat realistically rather than as comic relief.

I personally thought it was somewhat interesting, but had some plot holes you could drive a Strangelove Deemer through. I was "watch-watching" after the first hour.

I'm getting such polar reactions to the movie from the asian movie goers.

half love the characters, half hate it. heh

yeah, from other things I have read basically all say the same thing...that it is good, but also had some unused potential that could have made it much better. With certain frustrations all along the way.

Thanks for the input Freshie. How did I know before i posted this you had seen this? heh

Anyone else?

What reasons do the "half hate it" crowd give for disliking it??

I hope it's not some B.S. about "negative depiction".

kinda. it's about the polar stereotypes asians usually get. They are either picture-perfect straight-a students, thugs, or kung-fu masters. for the most part. hate was probally to strong of a word for me to use.

--Idle, kung-fu master (whose kung-fu is no good)

hmmmm... whatever. They should get over being offended. If there is anything that the movie does well, is get past stereotypes, to present interesting characters.

Well except for Steve.

Just saw the flick, I must say I liked it considerably. It wsan't exactly what I was expecting, i don't want to say specifically why because that may give to much away. But it was solid. Some very interesting camera work, not necesarily groundbreaking or innovative...but used very well. Shows great potential on the part of the director.

Intersting story, i didn't lull as much as you say you did Freshie...though a lil past an hour in I did check my watch. It picked up again shortly after.

I'm not sure how I feel about the ending.

Overall, I definently give it a thumbs up. At the very least worth a matinee showing, i woulda felt more than happy paying full price at night too.

And oh yeah. I would very very much like to touch the lead female in an impure manner.

--Idle, sining is good...yeah

Doesn't everyone have a friend like Virgil during High School??

Actually, speaking of the female lead, she was one of the "celebrity judges" (who ran off and never showed up again after the first few minutes because of the rain ), for UCLA's Spring Sing this year.

As for the movie, I'm planning to see it sometime in the next few weeks. Have some reservations about it, but I figure any Asian exposure is better than none.

Ack! I just remembered- Female lead had a trendy purse!

Not that that really had anything to do with anything.
