Best game of the last decade till now
I started my gaming career very early in my life, beginning at the early age of 3-5, i don't remember clearly though. I watched my brother play on his 10Mhz PC the game called Double Dragon. I also played Nintendo games like Super Mario Bros...
but now, I'm an avg. multi-gamer. I am good in all sorts of games, ranging from RTS, FPS, RPG to the other ones. I want to talk about the best games that you have played in the last decade, and I mean 1990-2002, not any older game like Pacman or Pong. Most of my fav. are newer games of the last decade, but I think I as I write there may be some early games that will make it to the list within the last decade. *drum roll* Below is a list of games I've played and thought were excellent, and it is not in any a Top Ten list. It is a list that encompasses all the different categories of game I've played. 1. Civilization 1, 2, 3. (I'm a fan of Sid Meier, believe it or not. He is the second person to be inducted to the something Hall of Fame along with the inventor of Nintendo, that Japanese person.) 2. Alpha Centauri plus it's expansion pack. 3. Final Fantasy VII on the PC. (I love Cloud and Tifa. They are really a match in that game!) 4. System Shock 1 and 2. ( Man, that game has gotta be one of the best games I've played. Mixing fear, RPG-style and FPS style makes it a totally addictive experience, and the allowance of modding yourself with cybermodules in the second version on the FTL ship was definitely cool addition.) 5. Speed Racer...( It's old, and I played the demo only, but it was super fun because I played it with a friend of mine. We use the Mark V's chainsaw to cut the computer's cars and went on a cutting-tree spree. The sound effects were super hilarious.) 6. Virtual On for the PC. (I played it on the arcarde with dual-joysticks, and it definitely was a new style of play. Plus it was cool to battle with mechs that acted like real people. But then again, it's second release sucked.) 7. Mechwarrior 2, 3, 4 (Definitely worth my time. Though missions got more boring in the fourth release, I still enjoyed my time with it's explosive graphics and stampeding around. I will definitely get Black Knight xpac.) 8. X-Com UFO Defense, Terror from the Deep, Apocalypse, Interceptor. (The turn-based strategy gaming for UFO Defense and Terror from the Deep were definitely the funnest moments of my life because instead of building more units, you were limited to a certain amount. Now real strategy had to be used to defeat aliens instead of rushing all your units to death. The turning of Apocalypse to RTS with the unit limitation enhanced the fun even more, though the graphics was horrible during its release. Interceptor added space combat sim instead, but it was still equally fun. Didn't get a chance to play X-Com Enforcer, but it definitely strayed apart from the X-Com heritage tradition according to my friend's description of it. I'm waiting for another X-Com game called X-Com Alliance.) 9. Half-life, TFC mod, CS mod, DOD mod. ( Half-life's story was intriguing, and the guard Barney telling you the story or the hapless scientist killed in various ways by me were fun reminders of Half-Life. It's mods were reasonably good as multiplayers, but as a single-player experience, Half-life is a stunning game.) 10. Freespace 1, 2. ( Although it wasn't totally realistic in it's use of physics, but the game is very fun. The story itself was quite complex, with Vasudans, Terrans, and Shivans fighting all-out wars. I liked the vast space you could fly, the black, eerie space background, a reminder of space as a vacuum and coldness. The beauty of anti-fighter beam cannons firing everywhere, each in a row of three shots, and main beam cannons ripping through other ships, the flak cannons spicing up space with shreds of metal. Definitely a Space Sim of the Year quality.) 11. The Sims and it's expansion packs. (Quite original. I liked how I can customize and ruin a person's life by placing the only shower outside the house and then see him strip outside during the morning in front of the newspaper girl. I liked how one guy who was starving go to sleep and wake up next morning just to die of starvation. Overall, if treated well, it is a rewarding experience.) 14. Homeworld and Homeworld: Cataclysm. ( RTS in REAL 3D, not like Ground control, where your units are still basically fighting on the same horizontal plane. I once got ambushed by a computer skirmish player with my battle group in the front and back of my mommyship, which sent the force BELOW my mothership. Also graphically appealing when cap ships go on a slugathon of ion cannons. Feels totally like the naval battles of WW2.) 16. Alien V. Predator 2 ( Forgot to play the first one when it came out. As the motto of the game says its, " The evolution of fear", is the main point why I like this game.) 17. Escape from Monkey Island ( Darn hilarious.) 18. RA. C&C, RA2 ( Techno style of a typical RTS. I like it due to it's fast-paced multiplayer, and it's techno theme music and units.) 21. Empire Earth ( Hell, it is one of the most challenging games. Simply irresistable to me. But definitely boring when it comes to resource harvesting.) 23. Railroad Tycoon ( Lovely game. I can remember my railroad empire stretching the middle of USA to either West or East Coast depending on the map, and over the entire Europe. It's sequel, lives up to the same good gameplay experience.) 27. Unreal and Unreal Tournament ( The original unreal, which I'm playing right now, seems like a fun adventure. The use of logs as a story-telling technique reminds me of System Shock. Unfortunately, it is not as scary as system shock, and therefore, remains in my heart as an arcade shooter like Q3A. UT is pretty good multiplayer experience with it's different modes of play. But I wouldn't count on it as being my sole multiplayer experience.) 29. Jane's USAF ( Flying a combat jet into an air battle along with CPU mates is very fun, believe it or not.) 31. Jet Fighter 1 and 3. ( Same reason as Jane's USAF.) 32. Total Annihilation. ( Fast-paced RTS with literally hundreds of units to build. Strong and good classical music during battles to backup the experience. Well worth my playing experience.) 33. Serious Sam. ( Serious shooting and darn good jokes. I still like the part where I'm playing at the beginning and a suicide bomber comes shouting "argh!" Blow him up, Sam says, "Argh! yourself." Then a serious amount of suicide bomber comes shouting argh and Sam says... "uh-oh...") 34. The Operational Art of War 2. (Extremely realistic represenation of the world's armed forces in battle on a turn-based scheme. Feasbile background stories for possible wars that could have happened in the past and in the future.) 35. Indy 500 on the 5.25 inch floppy disk. ( Yeah, it's a VERY old racing sim. But it was my very first racing sim.) 36. NFS series and Porsche Unleashed. ( Good racing sims. I bought a wheel especially for Porsche Unleashed.) 37. Slient Service ( My first sub sim. Pretty fun sneaking up on convoys and wreaking havoc. But then again, when your discovered and cruisers + destroyers start circling your sub = depth charges on your sub. If you don't stop and go to a deeper depth, you'll make enough sound for them to know where you are exactly and depth charge you to sinking.) 41.Clive Barker's Undying. (Freakish. just like AvP2. Definintely another standard for games trying to scare people off.) 42. NHL 2k1 (Nothing to say. I'm a Canadian afterall.) 43. Baldur's Gate 2 ( Very good RPG. Even better than D2 because of AD&D. Plus the story line is more complex than the quests in D2. Some are optional, some are compulsory. Fantastic game.) 44. Z, Z: Steel Soldiers (Original Concept of making units. easily said, the more land you own, the easier it is for you to produce units. Therefore, each extra peice of land you own = extra money produced for you and extra space for defense. Funny american style comics too in the sequel.) 49. Midtown Madness 1, 2. ( Roving around chicago and san francisco when I've never been to those places provides me with a chance to see their landscape and drive around their roads. Good racing simulator because of that.) 51. Fallout 1, 2, 3: Brotherhood of Steel (Return of the classic turn-based game. This time with Real-time feature. Fallout 1 remains the best when I think about it, since you start out like a real hero. Penniless, weaponless [almost], partnerless, you begin a hero's story resulting in the end, the defeat of the super-mutant army. The sequel BOS had less than spectacular story and you had to follow single-minded orders. No quests.) 52. Earth 2150 and Earth 2150: The Moon Project. (Expectionally challenging RTS. Challenging = Good to me.) 53. Arcanum (Very good RPG. The graphics are dull, but if you can ignore it, the story, the music and the many styles you can play this game in will definitely immerse you into a wholey different world.) 54. Majesty (Another good RPG/RTS mix. Watching your own RPG characters wandering at will, doing as they like, is something unheard of before. You can "interest" them into doing specific stuff by making rewards. Your heroes will advance in level as they hit and kill monsters. Definitely a original way of playing an RTS and RPG game.) That's not the end of the list, because I know I've played more games, but I can't simply remember all of them. Plus, this post originally had 12724 characters in it. But it has a limit of 10000. So I cutted out several games I thought that weren't as good after all. Tell me, what are your favourite games, and why. I'd like to know if anybody has witnessed the turn of the century's gaming with me. |

Wow, DeadLam--er, i mean, Ghost Recon.. nice post! Good comments too. I haven't played HALF the games you listed.
I've played C&C.. ooohh yeah. I havent played that in quite some team, because I got burnt out from playing it EVERY day. I played the first C&C for DOS, that was 320 x 240 resolution. Then I upgraded to the C&C for Windows, and onto Tiberian Sun + FireStorm Expansion pack. I got A LOT of use out of that game. Diablo I + II too. I loved that game. mainly because it's fun as hell over LAN. You get a group of people over and start exploring. And of course UT. These are the games i got the most use out of. I've bought other games too, but didnt seem to last very long. p.s. let it be known that Recon challenged me to a game of C&C and then backed out of it hehe

yeah..Half-Life was one of the best..the mission packs didn't live up to the original, but Half-life was damn cool.
Unreal (first game where I was awed by what I saw..I actually paused to look around the outdoor environments and loved all the messages everywhere). UT dammit..I wanted to list MegaMan2,3,1 but I think those are 80s..and console games to boot. nobody's named starcraft? |

Well, I grew up on nintendo. I first started playing video games when I was about 2 1/2 years old. Since most of my fondest memories were from way back then, Im gonna talk about games even before 1990.
OK, the originaly nintendo, for me, was the best gaming console ever. Games back then were all about quality, not about graphics and frame rates. My favorite Nintendo games were Mario brothers(1,2,3), Teenage mutant Ninja Turtles,MegaMan, Snake rattle n' roll(not many have played that one), Bubble Bobble, Snow brothers, Zelda, Rampage, zonoid(remember those old dominoes characters from the late 80's? They even had a game) and Trog. er, and I cant forget Dr. Mario, Tetris, and Yoshi! ....90's and on. Super Nintendo! That was a great system. First game I got with that was Super Mario Kart. I played that game for hours on end. er, then of course there was Mario world, Zelda, Tmnt 4, Street Fighter 2(began my obsession with fighting games), Donkey Kong Country, Face ball 2000, mario rpg, ...I can't remember anymore, but there was MORE! Pc game wise, I played cyclones, doom, Duke 3d, and decent. King Of fighters(neo geo/dreamcast) This is one of the best fighting games I've ever played. And it's my favorite game at this moment. er.. next to ut I mean. ![]() ![]() My two favorite characters. I can't lose with 'em My more recent favorite games(last 4 years or so) are: Fatal fury Motw(neo geo) Metal Slug(neo geo) Mario Kart(n64) Goldeneye(n64) Zelda otc(n64) Bomberman(saturn/ n64) Virtual Fighters(saturn) Nights(saturn) Soul Caliber(dreamcast) er... I think that's about it. Oh, and obviously, my favorite game right now Is UT. Although, It is starting to wear on me right now, but thats only because I've been playing it sooo long!
