Um, Nova is a long running science documentary series on PBS, not a movie.

This show will feature legitimate experts talking about one of the nastier things that terrorists might actually do.

No, a dirty bomb almost certainly won't kill or maim a lot of people, but such a device could well contaminate for a very, long time a small patch of important real estate, like downtown New York or San Francisco.

Tonight it was either Nova or Buffy, and well, Buffy totally kicked Nova's ass.

I did however, Tivo the Nova on biological weapons that aired after the one on dirty bombs.

And anyone who doesn't know what Nova is obviously has never watched PBS.

I love PBS. Some say it's liberal telivision, but I think it's a wealth of knowledge.

Me == teh unclear

I know what Nova is and know it will have good information - I know it's quality. I only posted that because it's pretty much the only thing I've seen over the last year or so that actually doesn't contribute to the hysterical flood of warnings that have come out of every source of media available.

This came off as an attack on Nova, which it wasn't in the least.. Next time I'll try hitting the new thread button instead.

Just finished Nova. Excellent show.

A dirty bomb is a weapon of mass disruption intended to disrupt our lives and impoverish us through our ignorance and fear of all things nuclear.

No problem ... I wasn't certain whether you knew it wasn't a movie or not.

The link you provided was interesting information, too. Although he is solely addressing the immediate survivability of each form of attack, not the overall consequences that any of these events would have on our lives over time.

I am bewildered that our government doesn't make an effort to inform the public to better prepare our immediate reaction. When an attack occurs the real threat may well be the risk of traffic accidents resulting from panicy drivers trying to get away.

I wonder whether the Chicago night club stampede wasn't something along these lines; there was just a little bit of pepper spray in the air but it was enough to get the whole crowd moving. We're all so jumpy.

a related aside; yes sadly most media that devotes any coverage to the "arts" is quickly labled "the liberal media" in a negative light. you may find it interesting to note, PBS, historically does not have such a *liberal past. surveys of their (and NPR) programming based on content have show they are indeed neutral politically while maintaining higher than average standards of educational content in multiple disciplines (arts, science, politics, etc.).

having been the subject of a PBS funded and sponsored documentary in 1998, i can attest to the fact they have very "conservative" guidelines and object to an extreme variety of content. you'll also find their "guidelines" vary regionally, in relationship to their demographics. despite the behind-the-scenes management of PBS and odditites of the regional affiliates, i do agree much of their programming is needed and well received.

for any PBS fans out there, ya might want to check out http://www.freespeech.org this is a "liberal" outlet, however they have one of the most interesting archives of documentary and original shorts on the web in the vein of global politics.

Well I Love PBS, yes they are liberal as most TV media is now anyway, and I am far from being a liberal, but I donate to PBS and think they have some great programs. But they did leave some things out of the Front Line that you posted.
