Mojang announces Block By Block, a collaboration with the UN

Mojang has announced Block By Block , a joint project with the UN which aims to involve youth in local urban planning.

Based on Mina Kvarter (My Blocks), a similar project focused on Sweden, Block By Block allows those who get involved to show urban planners and decision makers their own ideas for the future of the cities they live in.

A three year partnership, Block By Block will support UN-Habitat's Sustainable Urban Development Network in an effort to "upgrade" 300 public spaces by 2016.

A pilot project is already underway, focusing on an informal settlement in Nairobi called Kibera (pictured above, along with the equivalent in-game build constructed by Minecraft group FyreUK.

Mojang has committed to being the primary sponsor for Block By Block, and is currently working on a website to act as a reference hub for ongoing and completed projects.
