The release of their new movies in America is delayed roughly a year or two, meaning we get last year's new movie this year (or maybe next). Their latest is From Up on Poppy Hill, or Kokuriko-zaka kara, directed by Hayao Miyazaki's son Goro Miyazaki, of Tales from Earthsea previously. Poppy Hill premiered at TIFF last year and is perfectly timed to debut now, as it's a sweet love story that takes place the year before the 1964 Tokyo Summer Olympics. It's more of a charmer, a sweet drama without fantasy elements, but it looks as good as Ghibli movies always do.

Set in Yokohama, From Up On Poppy Hill is a high school love story that take place in the year before the 1964 Tokyo Summer Olympics. As the country begins to pick itself up from the devastation of the Second World War, the new generation struggles to move towards a prosperous future whilst trying not to lose the essence of their past. The film's rich and vibrant animation captures the entrancing beauty of Yokohama's harbour and lush surrounding hillsides and, with a soundtrack that draws inspiration from the finest music of the time, perfectly captures the thrills of young romance and the hope of a new dawn. This opened in Japan in July 2011, premiered at TIFF , and is playing Reel Anime , but still doesn't have a US release set yet.

Awesome! I was dissapointed with their last effort (Arriety), but this looks to be classic Ghibli
