It sure would help if an Unreal game would come out and be as good as Classic UT is. I have yet to see a game that come close to the UT experience.

I buy the server this is on no matter what. I have the bandwidth, no matter what. But UP is starting to hurt the server it's on as I put more and more of my own projects on it. You could run this place on a virtual, but you will need to have a "huge" amount of storage. Well, it's currently 60G if you turn off future uploads. Plan accordingly. I've got the lowest end physical server I can find - runs me about $100/month. Then there are the costs to keep us on vBulletin support. I think that's on the order of $100/year, but not sure.

So. Does it cost much? Not really. It's just that I've been paying for it for years, though Nihil kicked in a few times. I'm not mad. I'm just not wanting to deal with keeping this place on life support for no real reason that I can see.

I could never accomplish it for that cheap because I don't have my own server already. Is there a way to trim down the bandwidth it is taking away from your other projects? I'd hate to see it go away as it certainly has some sentimental value for me, as I'm sure it does for a lot of people, especially you I'd wager.

It's not the bandwidth. It's the server. To do "right" by this place, I need a bigger server, if it has to share with my other projects. Additionally, there's security concerns as well. This version of vBulletin is old. Unstable. Not cared for. Probably has holes throughout.

I don't have time to deal with it. No one else wants to. I'm happy to provide a tarball of everything (files, DB, etc.) to anyone that wants it. I'll transfer the domain name. I'll try to figure out a way to get the maps to anyone that wants to host them.

One thing is for sure, I will pull the plug on this place as it exists today at the end of the year. That leaves 4 months for people to "save" UP if they wish.

Ditto Kingster. We appreciate you keeping it up like you did.

My favorite times were the diverse talent and maps of the PugUp games. It was awesome to see some of those good but obscure CTF maps get some love. It was also a lot of fun seeing all of the diverse talent levels mix it up, and see how teams adjusted to different talents.

Personally, I think the character and reliabilty of many of the non-clan UPers really showed up in those games, where you'd see hard-core claners avoid some of those people while I, and others like me who knew better, would gleefully snatch them up when picking teams. I remember lwatching fraggers like Aggy, Kingster, Dagny and Airlea making their presence felt in PugUp games. That was always special fun for me to see, having come from here as a strictly-pubs player myself before UMH started up.

What's the total storage this site uses, including all the files? What the highest bandwidth this site has used this year? I am pretty sure I have the resources to host the site on my server.

Another thing - is it btw only me or got UP mapuploads disabled for some reason?
Because - the "Edit" and "Upload" buttons arent on my pages anymore
and also other didnt upload any in the recent past.

You are not the only one.I saw that a couple of weeks ago and mentioned it on my maps page here and no one has been able to help me yet. Maybe Kingster will see these posts and hopefully reply.

At some point when I get off my ass, we're going to migrate this site to another location, and a different set of owners. Until then, map uploads are off.
