SOCIAL MEDIA USERS shouldn't post pictures of their cash on Facebook, police in New South Wales (NSW) have warned.

The caution comes after two men armed with a knife and wooden club entered an Aussie girl's family home in the Southern Highlands, NSW, demanding money because she posted a picture on Facebook of her granny's personal savings hoard.

According to a statement by the NSW Police Force , the girl was helping her 72 year old grandmother count the stockpile when she took a photograph and uploaded it for all her friends to see.

It is unknown whether the post was to gloat about what she had coming to her in the will. Regardless, it was a pretty stupid idea.

The girl's mother told the criminals that she no longer lived at the address as they ransacked the house and took off with a few bob and some other items of personal property.

According to the report, no one was injured during the incident but it has prompted police to remind social networkers silly enough to share everything on Facebook to stay vigilant with what they post, and take extra care over their privacy settings.

Last month, Facebook finally made changes to its data use policy in order to appease the Irish Data Protection Commission (IDPC), which oversees Facebook's operations in Ireland, after campaigners for Europe v. Facebook representing the privacy of users said it failed to meet prescribed deadlines for change.
