UT3 profile?

Why do I need a custom profile for UT3 just so I can save the custom settings and the progress of my sp campaign for offline only?I created one by creating a copy of the default UT3 profile and renamed it to my username and it worked

Later I decided to create a profile online but I had to re-enter my cd-key when I started the game while connected to the internet but I got a message that my username has been registered already by some $#^$^ else...

Later I removed the newly created profile from the savedata folder and tried to start the game with the other profile but I had to re-enter the cd-key and my progress was lost

what is up with that?
