The video doesn't seem to show much difference in theme between Followers and D2's Hirelings from Acts One through Three. Thankfully they gave them skill selections; no more having to strip gear and employing a different A.I. will be nice.
I'm a bit mixed on the gear allotment; jewelry is a definite plus, as it's more overall gear. No armor slot of any type is shown, but it may be the one that's locked until they're level 25. Then again, it may not be armor at all, as the video shows a progress of outfits without the slot being open, suggesting that armor is simply determined by level. I seriously hope the pathfinding is better than D2. Everyone has to be sick of the A.I. cluelessly pacing in a corner or back forth from a door.

It really doesn't go into any detail about whether or not they'll have their own side-quests, or how they're designed (or customizable) to complement the class and build you've chosen, or what type of ongoing gameplay they provide beyond helping you kill things.

http://us.blizzard.com/diablo3/world.../followers.xml Turns out the slot unlocked at their level 25 is for a Follower-specific item. There are three types, each type bestowing appropriate types of bonuses for the related Follower.
