View Full Version : If your not going to play, leave the game

yeah starting to see some in game just go off and play dead up on a piller or just screaming about how they are not going to play this level or whatever..
errrrr then leave! Geeesh the server is really full almost all the time, if you think the teams are stacked or the level sucks just play it out or leave but don't just stay in the game doing Z E R O to help your team.. That is the lamest of the lame!!
I can see sort of understand if your down 5-0 and the guy is about to cap going "Screw it" and not going after him.. just to end the round.. Not something I have ever done but on some level I guess it gets it over with..
but there is NO reason to sit in a game, on a server you know is full all the time and just hold a spot for the whole game as you face a cornor or just play dead or whatever. Maybe if your worthless butt left the server your team might get a big gun to help them out? Or someone that wants to play and have fun?
I've seen this at least once a night for the last few weeks. Soo sad.........
For example I hate that one bathroom map, so I just left.. is that so hard?

gettin you some kleenex for Christmas.
*sob*
It would have been so easy to just hit disconnect, just as easy as it would have been to switch team colors before running the score up to 5-0 in 4 minutes on a bunch of noob fodder with a combined score of like 29. It doesnt take a genius to look at the teams when the round starts and go "gee this is fux0red" The server wasnt full, a "BIG GUN" could have come in and miracualously turned that game around! Of course being a "BIG GUN" is all relative isnt it? Like compared to the prerequisite 3 or 4 noob snipers on bloodlust2 guarding an empty base, a "BIG GUN" might be someone like ohhh, player4? /shrug.
So i sat down and watched while drinking a soda and having a snack, big deal. Are we running out of things to complain about around here or something? Well i guess thats a good thing! yay!
Merry Christmas

Never.... Like at 5-0 you aren't going to win. But being beaten 6-0 is the lowest of the low. At least try to keep the game going enough to score 1 cap to make it respectable.

How original, and grammatically incorrect. This will be the last reply of mine in this post, so don't bother answering. The fact that you don't get why people who aren't playing should leave a full server speaks for itself, as well as equalling DM'ing to "owning", which you have previously stated in another thread.

If you're not going to play, simply hit the spectator checkbox and reconnect.
If you're there to play - then play!.
Having just a tiny bit of consideration for people other than yourself goes a very long way.
Regarding blowout/one-sided matches (which happens a lot on these servers mainly because of the speed relic), if more of the top players that come here would simply consider switching teams when it gets to be 4-0, we'd have many more enjoyable games for all involved. It seems the thought of switching never crosses those "big gun" minds.

Sadly I am guilty of this a couple times now. Being down 5 - 0 on a map I just don't like and with a team that couldn't cap if their lives depended on it.
I sight up the EFC think about it and hold back.
The score will be 6 - 0 if I frag the EFC and return the flag now or not. Why prolong things. I just let em go so we can get on to the next map.
If I have faith my team can make a come back I don't let up. Played on S4 last night and my team was down 4 - 0 early on. We never gave up and the come back was sucessful.

For those who don't want to play in this map for some particular reason, just tick the specatotor options and reconnect. There are people who wanted to play, and don't be an ass hogging the spot and not participating. period.:tsk:

I've been on the losing team when that has happened (down 5 - 0 and some of your team are staring at the wall having a smoke). All I can say is what an opportunity missed. At least, like Freshie said, you can score one point and avoid getting skunked, but at most is holding them at 5 and running up your score. Nothing will kill their morale like slowly withering away at their easy win. Nothing will make their buttholes pucker more than when you come back 5 - 5. Don't go quietly into that good night.
Now the unavoidable problem of the bladder filling (Sims redlined bladder). Park the comp in front of the toilet or hold for the end of a game and when the map is switching do the sprint to the can relay to grab a beer on the way back before somebody scored a "quicky, got the speed, cap on yer sorry butts before ya know it". I once played a 2 hour 0 - 0 game in November. When that was over everybody needed a break.

After two hours I'd be like just take the flag already. /jk
Seriously that would be freekin in tense to play a two hours deadlock. In all provided there were a great deal of pickups and saves. That game must have rocked.
(Reviewing that comment I can think of a few maps I would rather not spend two hours on though. lol)

it isn't only because of the speed relic, mostly it is do to the fact that this server has a lot of really talented players that frequent it, more so than almost every other pub server. 3 great regs = 2 on 1 team, 1 on the other...usually, the one with the 2 regs gets a "blowout"
i've played on plenty of other relic servers where this was a near non-issue
i've played on "standard" servers where this was a regular occurence as well.

Yeah idle I don;t think it is the speed relic that causes the blow outs. If someone like gets the relic of defense and scoops up full armor and health you can walk in and take the flag with little worry of getting fragged. With speed your just a faster moving target.
Also blowouts happen for a number of reasons. Sometimes you have players who don't want to play the map and stand around :spank: , sometimes one team has more or the only good reg, or one team has too many players who are new and / or don't know the map. Also comes down to team work. Some ties you get teams that don't work well together. And sometimes you get a team that has no FC. So the most couragous teammember runs blindly in and trys to grab the flag but fails because neither they or their team has developed any form of cohesion. And it happens that people who are not team players show up and DM or wander.
Also a blow out can happen even if your team has a good FC, if your team has no one capable of getting the flag back and keeping long enough to score. When I endup on a team where I have to FC I should know before I even touch the flag that I won't cap. If I'm the best hope for my team then we are in big trouble. I had a game the other night on Squirrelballs that had that exact thing happen. It wasn't just a blow out it was a serious butt kicking. My a$$ still hurts. LOL
More so those greater powers should recognize their position of superiority and hold back a bit to make the weak team feel a bit better. More or less have a little mercy and help make it fun for those pions you are about to obliterate. More or less if you are up 5 - 0 with no hope for the other team of ever scoring maybe just let them have one. thay'll feel better that they didn't get blown out and you'll know that you were the bigger person for letting it happen, even though you could have squashed them like tiny unwanted insects.

I disagree.
These servers have a bunch of great players, tons of good to average players, a smattering of llamas and a majority of the players here don't know/couldn't give a crap about teamwork.
Every other server that I play on have a larger majority of great players on them - none of them with relics because, frankly, relics suck. They completely upset the natural balance of skill. Try running a server here with no relics and watch it dry up because the average to n00b players rely on relics (or almost worse - spam). That's probably a bit strong, but I'm a purist and enjoy playing on a level battlefield.
Skill = your actual proficiency in this game.
I've seen the top players grab the speed relic and proceed to run up the score time and time again. I won't name names, we all have see it and know who they are, but the worst thing about that is that those guys NEVER switch teams to try and even things up.
I'm not talking about running up the score just to end a map. I guess they're just stat ho's or need their ego stroked.
That's why I love playing against/with guys like }BDF{ , Recon, radio667, DV, Vintage etc because they consistantly play with class, sportsmanship and teamwork.

Forgive me, but that's crap!
The only way people get better is by getting smacked down and learning from the experience.
The problem has many reasons:
Many play here simply for fun (hence the relics) and don't really care about winning, teamwork, etc.
Relics upset the balance of gameplay (makes the great-to-average players much more difficult for the lesser players to beat.
Many players here do not take it upon themselves to at least attempt to self-regulate and switch teams.
That last one, I think, is the primary offender.
A couple of months ago, when Recon could sometimes be found speccing, he had this 4-0 Rule - When the score hit 4-0, either the top player or the second best player would switch to the losing team. This helped tremendously and turned many bad games into good, if not great games.
I always, always switch! I am very competitive (which explains why I'm so opinionated about all things UT), but I'd rather play a fun game and lose than run up the score.
I think the 4-0 Rule should become standard policy, but that's just me

I like that rule too. Just hard to enforce :(
Other times I am so into the game I forget to look at the darn score..sorry.

Trashing some poor noob won't help them learn how to do much more than die many quick deaths. I watched some noob run out of a window on Saltyseamen the other day. The sniper towers are pretty high up and I guess he just didn't realize how far down the ground was. He didn't need my help to get himself killed. He was the only other human on S4. Would me smearing his lowly carcass all over the map really have helped him develope anything? Now just imagine what a good player could have done to the poor SOB. I let him do his thing until he left. He killed a couple bots and I hope he enjoyed it. That is why I'm here. I am here to have fun and when I have my moments of skill I like to try and give the better players some competition.
That said the 4 - 0 rules sems like a good thing. It leaves the chance that he winning team can still pull it out having lost their top players and also gives the team that is getting waxed bad an opportunity to come back.

depends. if i see a true newbie making pitiful mistakes, i'll try and do things to them that REALLY exploit that. and make it obvious what i'm doing, most times i might even say something about. hoping they'll learn from it. but i do try and leave the newcomers alone...and usually when i do they flak me in the back. bastards.
consequently, no offense, but if you think relics suck to much...

A couple of things for clarification:
It was NOT a full server.
Game lasted 5 minutes if that. If i had speced instead the game would have been over in the time it took me to hit the checkbox lol. There was nothing stopping anyone from coming in on my team.
Also, i stated when the match first started that the teams were WAY off balance, not one person switched to change it up. There were 3 or 4 regs on the opposing team, vs a team that included me and 6 or 7 other guys with names like "UT" "UT_guy" ANd all they were doing was sitting in the flag room sniping at the back wall with the flag missing. The entire round was an exercise in futility and this is blown way out of proportion. Whether i was FD on a pillar for the last 3 minutes or i checked a box that says spectator has NIL to do with the outcome of the game. I wasnt taking up anyones spot. In fact while i was up there i did happen to see DL come in with his axe and start spawn killing my noobs from atop the other pillar while he "protected his flag runner" Who was already out the room mind you. Now him i did wake up just to frag, since i take such joy in it. Seeing as how he likes to call me a DMer, finding him there doing that was rather gratifying. *cough* hypocrite *cough*
-PS- DG, go look up the definition of ignorance before you try quoting me. Me calling Balckshado ignorant was becuase he did not know that he didnt know what he was talking about. Which is what ignorance is.

Recon if im doing it for 3 straight games, im in spec mode. not actually in the game. I rarely do it as it is. In fact this is the first time i can recall that ive sat thru an entire game. And it was a 5 minute 6-0 blowout, and not on a full server. I would never sit thru 3 entire games. Unless you consider speccing while eating and taking up a valluable spec spot a bad thing.

that is pure crap.. I rolled in there ALONE looking to get up to the piller to hope to start everyone shooting at me with the hope a runner would show and take the flag.. One did but he did NOT head right out of the base.. soo I knocked down about 2 guys after him and I think one guy that spawned.. also shot a guy that was still in spawn protect but seeing that I let him go and JUST about to head out of base (so I would not lose the ax).. ah but what do I see out on the other piller?!!? Someone I thougth was sniping.. I jump over there and it turns out to be you playing dead.. then I got killed when I paused to type "wtf?"
that is FAR and away from anything even close to the lamer DM camping I have seen you do many times..
Look I have NO IDEA who is a "big gun" or not anymore on the server.. So many new players and so many good ones running new names.. By the time the game is going on and we are up some caps it almost too late.. You on the other hand quit like a punk 2 sec in the rounds. If your NOT on a great team, suck it up and try your best.. I do... I have tons and tons of screen shots of me with x2 the score of the rest of my team due to me busting my ass on D and maybe even getting lucky for a cap or two BUT we still got are butt kicked 6-1...
I don't get how going "Oh we will lose my team sucks" and going off and playing dead or whatever helps in anyways.. If you have left someone else migth of shown up or someone might of jumpped teams to even them up...
I at least showed some class and did not names name in my first post to let ya save some face but if you want to get ugly about it your not going to find too much support for your whole idea of "I just want to sit it out and hold a server spot" plus my team play is above being question.. Time to leave this thread alone. Neither side has any proof, and there is a tremendous amount of favoritism being shown here. Especially for a guy who camps the flag in every match hes in.
Incidentally, youre flag carrier had left the flag room, even if i had been a sniper on the pillar. what would have been the prupose of coming over to me when you could have been covering your flag runner. Anyone who knows the map, much less such a great player as yourself, knows that i would have had no line of sight to hit him anyway right? Since he had alaready left the room right. FINAL COMMENTS
1: Yes, our comrade Agent008 gets frustrated just like everybody else. I'm also pretty sure that we've all sat idle for a minute or two (not on a full server) while taking a leak or grabbing a beer at one point or another.
2: Sitting idle for three minutes, on a half-full server, while scarfing a sandwich, doesn't seem to warrant the kind of attention that this thread is getting.
3: Deadlamb is a good player who is probably used to a full server and on a full server that kind of activity is sacreligious so I understand the semi-harsh words.
4: Posting items that are directed or are directly antagonistic toward specific players / teams is taboo and should be done via PM only.

why does everyone want to sit and kick me all the time?
come on, be kind to idle. hes no doofus, he might be a little freakish...a little squirrely, but hes not to mad. Watch him play, hes pretty stealthy, that mofocon guy is swell. Why must everyone abuse him? hes like a poor lost lamb stray from the flock and soon dead...just forget it, think happy thoughts like about brttney spears and gingerbread men and large dumps at your uncles house. all this abuse will make him a ghost of his former self, but really hes an angel in the maps. just sit back with your gin, or vodka, or what not. ALl this talk is making him nervous and hes sweating from forehead to rectum...the pain iz in a side him, among other things i'm sure. but if all that doesn't convince you...then so be it, then consider him a mortal plague upon the lands. do what you will to him...rape him, maim him, murder him, canabalize him...i'm sure he tastes like chicken. He'll have to run and creep around behind your back instead of Playing. i'm sure he'll find other hobbies, he could start an apprenticeship as a cabana boy with an elderly hispanic man named Pepe, they could work together growing super dank for a colombian drug cartel calling himself the Lord of Monkeys...whatever that means. He would watch over the colombians vintage automobile, cleaning all the grime and chud off if it. Hopefully a cobra in the grass won't bite his foot...but we'll just have to wait and see. I have a feeling if he does get bit, he'll whirl and scream like some sort of tazmanian devil.

there is a HUGE fire flame up there that is red.. I can't really really tell if there are down or moving on a 1280x1024 19 inch LCD screen when it's more or less a wall of red.. I thought it was a sniper.. I went over to kill..

Sooooooo my take on that is BS huh?? I can hit a person in mid air as I'm in mid air from almost across the map, hit running combos from anywhere in any direction but all of a sudden I can't hit someone playing dead on the ground right in front of me? Oh ok.. we will go with that one.
Sorry to stir everyone up, that was not my plan.. I just wanted to suggest that if someone is going to 100% quit on their team they should just leave the game so others can try.. I HATE being on a team where we just can't hang but on some level as long as everyone "tries" it's still ok..
sigh.. Geeesh if you don't get it then you just don't get it... I forget some cpu players never have played real sports or whatever but you just don't "quit" on your team. Even in BS stuff like online games.

They have auto kick on #1.
And I hate when you can't get on a server because some n00b with -4 points is wasting space for the people who & want to play.

Me too but that wasn't the case here. The server was half full, a great player decided to scarf a sandwich, the game was a blowout anyway, that's all.
