I am in need of advice from you guy's/gal's. As far as movement goes I use the WASD setup because it's what works for me. When in combat are there any combo's that you use to dodge effectivly. I have heard of people using their movement keys in a figure eight fashion and also in reverse. Any tips on dodging, jumping, and strafing?

Also I am practicing with the impact hammer more now and also looking for tips on this matter.

Thanks for your time!!!

study your opponent, individually.

do they favor their left? or right sides?

what weapon do they use? do they go down easy if you jam them, or are they worse if you are farhter away?

NEVER do what they expect

you have shock rifle, you run out of ammo...they'll charge, expecting you to run. so instead of running, charge back with the enforcer or even the hammer

If you can get used to it, using your thumb for run backwards actually works very well, it allows you to switch directions much faster than using your middle finger for both foward and back. Keep in mind that I don't do this, as I can't get used to it. :D

Aside from that, basically what Idol said. Wild dodging works sometimes, but controlled is a hundred times more effective.

Switch weapons a lot. My favorite is probably shock, to some weak weapon, then back to shock when the opponent think you're out of shock ammo. Not that I really do this that often, but more that I just switch weapons situationally, or try to.

Are you talking about movement in a dogfight, or when running around the map?

If its when fighting, then it depends on which kind of weapon you're facing. If a rocket launcher, then you change directions with the rocket-fire intervals (i.e. wait until he's about to shoot, then dodge) If a shock rifle, then dodge to the side to try to push his aim off the ball and get as much range as possible. If flak, cross him up and throw flak balls as you turn around.

As for the hammer, I've stopped practicing since its only useful on a few maps. Just point straight down facing forward for high jump, and facing backwards at an angle for long jump. Fire just as your feet leave the ground.

I still have alot to learn, but this is some of the stuff that's kept me alive lately.

Hey Ultra I have tried the n50 speed pad but had a ton of lock ups when using it. Must have been conflicting with something on my machine. I did like it alot though, but I run smooth without it installed.

Yes Blackshado, I was wondering about movement while in a dogfight. I also remember someone suggesting ducking when the blue balls come your way, how effective is this? I guess it would depend on how high they aim. The combo does the most damage when it is right around the head/shoulder area right?

It seems like it would be easier to switch directions if you use your thumb as backwards, but I don't know if I could get used to that either Ari.

Anyone else got any pointers on this? Thanks to those who have already responded!!!!

i dodge to my right probably 95% of the time. why? because it is easier to use my index finger than my ring finger.

now my secret is revealed, do with it as you please.

OT Shock Rifle/Sniper tip:

Try and hold the mouse level at all times for your combos, it makes moving combos cake... Well, maybe more like fancy pastries, but, well, you get the point.

You'll begin to notice this level sweet spot is also the headshot height. Fun fun fun.

Most ppl favor the shock and rockets in UT. These are both far to med. away weapons. These ppl are use to u going around in a circle at a certain shooting distance. I use the Flak and minigun the most to get in close with these ppl. I like to dodge foward toward them, unless they have quick reflexes they are toast against a Flak. Then there is the xloc hos. Easy to take down, just look at how high they are shooting their xlock, pull our your minigun, shoot about the same height alt fire in a small circle, bound to hit that xloc and get them telefragged. Can't dodge a shock combo in UT, the best thing to do is kill them before they do it. This glitch was thankfully fixed in UT2k3 by making the combo smaller and non redeemer power. Hope this helps if not it gave you something to read.

I usally dodge right for the same reason as SIAB.

A UT combo can be dodged. It depends on the range and the assaulting players' skill.

The only weapons that inflict "head" hits are sniper rifles and rippers. Hitting someone in the face with a rocket does just as much damage as hitting them in the foot. Same goes with shock combos.

I doubt it does any good in online play. Because of server/player lag, 9 times out of 10 when I'm hit by a combo, it appears to be nowhere even near me on my screen. Likewise, I sometimes surprised I actually killed a player with a combo because it looks like I was way off target, and it appears like they got out of range of my blue ball.

Just try to get far away or in close.

If you want to learn how to dodge, it's in the UT Bible, here it is on clan Zenkai http://www.zenkai.com/strats.htm You turn 56 degrees and do a side dodge while holding down the forward key. You should do that all the time running with the flag. It moves you through the map faster and makes you a harder target.

I use the numeric pad for movement. I find I move around better using that instead of the W, A, S, D. I think it's because the keys are square to eachother on the numeric pad. Where as W, A, S, D, the keys are jagged.

If you're asking about how to move around when fighting. You just need to know all the tricks. If you encounter a flak monkey, back off and hit him with a minigun or shock primary. If you're up against a shock ho, I like to get in their face to where I'm too close for shock combo. Then hit them with rockets or minigun. If I can't get close, I pull out my shock rifle and duel it out with them

tip: never move in a pattern. peeps will predict where you will end and boom! :blah:

i notice a lot with FCs or EFCs... trying to get to an exit as fast as they could......... thinking that the speed can get them out.... WRONG! smart enemies will aim the cross hairs there and wait ya....

I'm leary of those fps game pads. My keyboard has more buttons. There's hardly any room on there to add weapon or speech binds. I also use stuff like walk, crouch, toss relic, toss weapon.
