How to get into the Game (when the server's full)

Man, the server seems to be full ALL THE TIME, lately. For Stealth and I that's pretty cool. I'm glad we have a server that people seem to like.

On the other hand, when we want to play...

Here's what I do to get into the game server when it's full.

Go into Options|Player Setup and turn on spectator mode. If the server's full, it will still allow up to two spectators. This will get you in the game and also load and cache your map (this is important).

As soon as you get into the game, go back into Player Setup and turn off Spectator Mode.

As you're cruising around the game, it's pretty easy to spot the messages "Freakish has left the game" or periodically press F1 to see if there's an open slot.

Once there is an opening, press <ESC><ALT-M><R>. This will reconnect you to the server. Since the map is cached, there's almost no load time, and you immediately connect to the server. (Mac users are on their own for keystrokes).

I don't think I've waited much more that 5 minutes to get into the game using this method.

Also, if the map ends and you have Spectator mode turned off, you'll have a 1 in 22 chance of being let into the game when the next map starts.

I followed the 'how to get into the server' faq exactly. But, I still couldn't get in. I think you wrote it wrong. I kept waiting for the 'Freakish has left the game' message, but after 9 hours on the server, it never happened. I saw plenty of 'BamBam dropped the flag', and someone saying "LOOK AT MY TITS!!!". I saw Hero saying 'Bite Me!', Freakish saying 'I've got the flag', and Deadlamb saying 'Our base is now closed'.

But I never did see a message saying 'Freakish left the game.'
What should I do now?

I think you missed the part that says "periodically press F1 to see if there's an open slot". That one will probably work better for you.

on that 1/22, i always get in when im in spectater, and a new game starts with spec. off. 1 good thing about 56k:D !!!!!!! i connect to the game really fast!

Also i am pretty sure that if you press tilde~ and type reconect then enter it reconects you if you want to do it quickly just type it in and close the console then open it and just press tilde it should work okay :D

I got a couple o questions. I currently use reconnect to jump teams (for team balancing), but I seem to have seen out on the advanced console commands cheat sheet that there is a Set team function. Can anyone confirm this? Is it allowed on the server? How the hell do I use it?

Am I really this much of a dumbass? :D

I've looked all over for that command and haven't found it. I *really* don't think there is a command-line team switch / set command. Why? Well...this is the Epic page about the command line options...

You don't have to reconnect though. You should be able to goto player setup and change your color and as soon as your color changes you'll die and be on the other team (score preserved -1 if ya care). Some servers enforce balanced teams and thenyou might not be able to switch to the team that needs you(even if the team with 4 players is whupping the team of 6 players).
