this question goes out to those folks that have been online FPS'ing for a long time, thru different games/versions.

how long do you guys think that UT will survive online after UT2003 comes out? what i mean is, how long before many or most of the UT servers are ghost-towns?

im thinking that many people will drop UT in favor of the new version, but i want to know what u guys (and grrlz) think, whom have seen new versions of other FPS games come and go (maybe the quake series as comparison?).

btw, UT is my only online fps experience, which is why im asking. as many of y'all may have noticed im playing again, for a little while (i got a lot of stuff done while i was away! :D )...but im afraid that UT will kinda die off when 2003 comes out, cos 2003 seems like it will be a whole new game. but hey, im a n00b, whaddoiknow? :D

2003 is gonna have a lot of the same weaps, just like UT did with unreal. Also, people with low-end systems are going to have to dish out a LOT of $$$ to upgrade for UT2003. Anyways, some people still play Unreal (hell, I'm going out to buy it in 15 minutes)!

Well, I think the whole "server ghost-town" thing has already happened. Take a look at the list of all "UT Servers", then sort by players (ascending). Then scroll down until you get to servers that have even one player on them. 8O

We are already the die-hards. If we weren't we would have moved on to something else by now.

Let's put it this way; there's still a fair amount of people who still play Quake 2 online.

If my system can handle UT2k3 though, the double jumps, wall bouncing, etc.. will be awesome.

I suspect it will die out gradually, it will probably follow a similar pattern like Quake2 - Quake3. I don't know how long that took to kill off Quake2, but it's inevitable.

You could always just pre-order it Hogman, then track it on the web, so you could stay home and have it delivered to you to tear open like a big Christmas present-just hope it isn't the socks you ordered instead

Heh...
I usually just wait for a sale to come along a week or two later so I pay $15 or $20 less (usually in the smaller box.) That also lets some time go buy for a quick patch to come out or for me to hear if it really has some bad issues gameplay-wise.

Well I hope it doesn't end up like Quake3 has, it's sad, because I really liked Q3 and these days I'm lucky to play anyone on-line who's not a bot, and it's always the same 4 CTF maps, and the connection is always sketchy  But, I also, wonder if UT faces the same fate. :(

2k3 doesnt excite me whatsoever. I'll wait till some mods come out (xloc anyone?) before even getting a copy. The peeps here are what really makes it fun, and i plan on sticking around till the bitter end :D

From what I understand the xloc issue isn't as bad as it might seem...even for die-hard xloc gnats.

Gnats... heh 8)
I have to agree about the Xloc. From the movies I've seen I find it hard to imagine needing more than 3 hops to get from one corner of a map to its opposite. It has to be going close to 3 times as far as UT's. Plus, being able to peek around with it, even whilst in flight, should make strategies far more interesting.

Errmm with double jump, I see the need for less x-loc(Proclaimed X-loc Gnat) so 3 or 5 xloc plus double jump and adrenalin boost. Woohoo Ill be all over the place!! It wont hinder my performance for long with just a few x-loc.

well, heres what im seeing. over the past few months ive seen alot of pep retire till 2k3, and alot of game play deminish because of that. alot of the servers that used to be filled with talented people have become empty or have become newb havens. when uk3 comes out i bet within 1 week the amount of ut servers will be cut in half and made to 2k3. there will still be a decent amount of pep who will play this game because like me cant move on due to slow pc's. but im guessing that the hard core ut fans will move over. its just a matter of time till this game looks like Wolfinstien3d :).
