Hey guys. I'm looking to get the Old Skool Monta Toolz ported over to Unreal 3. The point of this post is to find out how many people have an interest in this as well. Hopefully if enough people a desire for it Super Ape will be willing to port it over for us. I'm willing to donate $100 towards the effort. You don't neccesarily have to donate to support the project, but I'm sure donations help ;) I know it would be a lot of work for Super Ape.

Anyway, if you have a desire to get the OSMT ported over, vote here and post your thoughts.

Yep, would be sweet :)
I've no idea how much work SuperAper would have to do though.....

I think it would be a good thing, but someone would have to design new monsters.

That said, Im not too sure how many people would utilize the tools.

I know SuperApe has a new job now which may take up a lot of his time, have you talked with him about this?

Also, ut2004 had the invasion gametype which came with monsters. OSMT for UT3 would take a lot more work, as it comes with no invasion, no monsters, etc.

Yeah, jingato contacted me and I suggested he start a thread to see if there was much interest. I've been contacted by others who ask the same.

I am busy, that's true. But, I have been thinking about ... thinking about it. Put it that way. It's major time investment.

OSMT on UT3 would be great - but I don't know if it'll have the same level of support as UT2K4.

Yeah - I'd like to see this too, I never used OSMT for UT2K4 though, was to buisy to find the time to make anything back then, I have a bit more time now, but am really trying hard to fill it up.
That said, I really can't affoard to donate anything, just getting a web page of my own up is an uphill battle, but if I can help with it any other way, I'm more than happy to do a few things towards this.
IMO - it can hardly be expected of one person to make OSMT, when you take into account the need for models and content as well, so this leaves me with a few questions...
Do you intend on getting a proper team together to make this work?
If so, what are the entry requirements?
How far is OSMT going to go with UT3? The web page I am trying to set up is going to orientate around distribution of mapper resources, such as custom content (eg. Textures, Static Mesh, etc..), maybe if you decide to do this project, and if I get my site going the way I want, we can sort something out there as well.
Anyhow, OSMT is eventually a must for UT3, but it is also a huge undertaking to get it going, I'm all for it.

Well I am just announcing that since there have been no replies since my last - I am going to actually start looking into the script side of getting this idea going.
I have no idea of how much work it is - and nothing may come of this, but I was going to make a start anyhow.
If you would like updates on my progress - I'll happilly keep y'all up to date on how I am going...
Consider this post compleatly retracted, my apolgies to SuperApe.

Um. I did reply. And no, you may not take OSMT for UT3 on yourself. This was a project I started here and will likely continue here, but I do not need or request coding help. Please don't make me press the issue further at this time. I have a lot on my plate, but I would like to continue OSMT into the next engine version when I am able.

EDIT: No worries, M8.

So any news on this Superape? The make something Unreal contest has been announced and I'm sure this would be a good contender for the contest. Just a little incentive :)

Exactly.

Well, maybe this is as good a place as any to say, I have been thinking about my options, my available time in the foreseeable future, the requests here and elsewhere, etc. I've decided to forge ahead with one project. Now then, this project could be:

- OSMT v1.5 for UT200x, which has been on the back burner for about 9 months
- OSMT for UT3
- (various maps/adventures in various stages of development)
- A completely new project specifically targeted at MSUC '08-09

Truth be told, I have been putting OSMT v1.5 for UT200x back together after a series of wild tangents. There are significant improvments and valuable additions.

Looking at what little I have of UE3, OSMT for UT3 may not be as crazy difficult, especially if I don't overhaul the base Monster/Controller stuff. I'll have to check again to confirm, but at least the underlying code (if not a set of stock monsters) might be pretty doable. And perhaps that leaves time to *make* a few creatures (taking the Golem as a start).

I have a half dozen test/partial idea/incomplete maps. Most are worth some attention.

I did spent a coffee-induced morning going over an idea for a TC.

So, that's where I am at the moment: Deciding how to spend my free time (and some late nights) for the next few months.

Nice. Currently I'm working on a 3rd person platform style TC. I' almost done with it. I just need to get the enemy's in there and working correctly. (I'm not much of a programmer) After that I was going to try and put together a team for a TC for the contest. I was thinking a half life 2 style fps. I always wanted to make the Legend of Zelda meets Halo. A fps with RPG adventure style game play in between battles.

If you're interested in working together for the competition let me know.

...will this mod support cooperative thingy or something else?Yeah, the current version for UT200x is compatible with all multiplayer gametypes and includes a custom sp/coop gametype. OSMT for UT3 would have the same features.

EDIT: I Can Definately Use Testers ! :D

The One thing keeping me from spending much time working with ut3 is the lack of SP AI , if OSMT4UT3 can provide an answer for this problem, i can finally get started. Otherwise I may resort to trying to port over some other ai scripts (if that would even work?) and my scripting talent sucks for sure.

Please make this one, its so badly needed right now.

...

I hear you, and others. Each response here is being considered and appreciated. I am weighing these requests with my own wish lists and available time. I'm going to do another exploratory venture into UT3 class structure and code to help me determine how much time is needed, and if it can be done in time for MSU '08.

The dream would be to have the toolz in place and then make something using the toolz and submit that for MSU '08. Which, I'm sure would also fit the bill for many who've responded to this thread.

More soon. Keep talking.
