So, some levels like deimos have them cool textures like the shields. But they are in the "mylevel" package (or dm-deimos, whatever), how do I get the to be used in my level?

You'd have to export the texture and re-import it.
With the material, all you need to do is open the MyLevelled one, drag a rectangle around all the expressions, copy (CTRL C) and paste them into your Material (CTRL V).:)

And don't forget to ask permission if it's from a 3rd party map.

it's from deimos. anyway, i don't get it. I click the three material instance constant, that are in the dm-deimos package, ctrl+c, open my map, got to the mylevel package (currently named war-aether), and press ctrl+v, but nothing happens...

am i doing somethign wrong?

No, you can't copy the whole texture. I'll pop it open and check out what's affiliated with it.

OK, just looking at M_LT_Light_SM01 or whatever.
Couble click the materail to get into the MAT editor window.
Zoom out and hold ALT + CTRL and trace a rectangle around all the expressions ala paint style.
CTRL C for copy. Keep the window open as you'll need it again in a bit.
In your maps package, create a new materail.
Once in the materials editor window CTRL V to paste.
Now, you'll need to link up the expressions to the preview material box the same as the Deimos version (i see there's a few linked too) and save it via the 1st of the three green arrows and your good to go.:)

If I recall correctly, if you right click a material (or a texture) in the generic browser, you'll get a pop-up with various options. Rename is something I've used before but you don't want that. If there's still a 'Duplicate' option, select that. A dialogue box will pop up asking where you want to duplicate the material to. For the package, put in your map's name (your 'mylevel'), and for the group, I'd reccomend 'Materials' if its a material. Then give the material a name.
Then, after the dup is done, scroll down (or up) to your map in the generic browser, and you should see the material there in the group you named.

Essentially you've making a copy from the original mylevel to your own mylevel. No import/export required.

Works with ANYTHING in a package - textures, materials, meshes, emitters, etc...

I tried that, but the official cooked packages are protected.
The duplicate, copy etc are all unselectable. There's a speel on EPIC's forums about why, and another way to do it which apparently is quite buggy and can cause game crashes.

Dang it!

I understand why the cooking is done, but I still don't like it. Takes away too many options.
Would I prefer that such things be more bloated and unoptimized? Well no.

I guess I just want both. :p

Thanks for that info LS.

by shields, what materials are you referring to? are you referring to the orange transparent material that is used to block the openings to the low gravity/space areas? If so - that material is accessible - I'm using it in a map, I just had to scale it because it has an edge to it that matches one of the openings.

If you do mean the orange material, I can help steer you to the one I'm using.

I have the orange one, but there are red and gray ones too, and those are in the deimos package. i would have preferred to use the red one, but it ain't wortht the trouble...
