View Full Version : We NEED subscribers!

Airlea
12-10-2007, 10:59 PM
Alas, I have come to beg for subscribers. Our lifelines (you guys) were severed when the forums were upgraded. We barely had enough subscribers before the forums were upgraded, and nowwe have none.

Drop that bag of potato chips, cut back 2 packs of cigarettes, buy one less case of beer per month, and you could help save UP.

All subscriptions & donations goto the cost of operating the forums and the servers. Will you help save UP today? Could you imagine if everyone helped out with 5 dollars a month??

Subscribe Here (http://www.unrealplayground.com/forums/payments.php)

Donate Here (http://www.unrealplayground.com/forums/misc.php?do=donate)

Please, please stop Airlea from begging. :claps:

Also, please note that for the time being, all subscription / donation links are located under the user panel.

If anyone would like to donate via snail mail or other forms, please contact either myself (the begging Airlea) or Kingster.

This has been your public announcement.

Donations are not configured yet. I'm going to try to have them done today. Subscriptions are all set though... You would do it in your user panel: http://www.unrealplayground.com/forums/payments.php

I'm also going to try to get a "progress" bar up so people can see where we are in paying for costs so far this month...

Thanks all.

There's usually a transaction code from your bank that you have to set up. Maybe call your bank and ask how to set up using Paypal? I say the bank because I had a look at paypal's site and it wasn't that informative. It's been a while since I set mine up.

To add a bank account you need to have the checking account and routing numbers. Which are located on all paper checks. PayPal will then make a micro deposit of less than a dollar to your account. If you have online banking you check the amount deposited and use that to verify the account with PayPal.

That's entirely untrue. Most debit cards are protected by Visa or Mastercard these days. The same rules apply - generally a $50 maximum liability.

That being said? It can mess you up... Since the money has to go to Visa/Mastercard for them to pay it back.

I use debit. With credit, you really have to be on the ball. If you slip up, something you bought will cost more than intended.
Plus, my bank is so cautious about how I use my debit card. They call me a lot for confirmations.
And, don't forget, a lot of places that take debit also use the PIN code, too.

Edit: Not to mention that with a credit card, if someone steals it, they could spend money with it than you'll ever be able to get. :)

my bank will cover any unauthorized transactions. if someone withdraws $500 from an atm, they say it was their problem.
if someone tries to spend $5000 on jewelry, they will just roll their eyes and say, "who the hell are you kidding?"

Let's say you had $500 in your account. Someone takes out 100 dollars here, 100 dollars there. Now you didn't expect it. Checks bounce. Each that get a $25 dollar service fee. Let's say you had out 5 to 10 checks. Bounce, bounce, all over town. By the time you get it all straight, you will have upset half the stores were you had the bad checks. You have no money in your checking. You will be screwed until they get it straight. If you have banks like ours, they will try to say it wasn't there problem. As they have tried to do before, until I was able to prove it through my records. It may also be hard to prove someone else is using your card.

So yes they may, but with a credit card, it's not coming straight out of your checking account.

Well, as you know, I am a giving sort of person, but, you see, I've been changed. Yes, I had an epiphany a short while ago.

...so PLEASE donate food to CHOW or whatever poor-aiding program you have around your house.

In response to my thread... a good point was brought up.

Nobody ever made it that easy for me! It is my part, to ignore them and let them at least try and take care of themselves.

To all those thinking... "How would he like to be in that position?" I work my ass off on a daily basis to ensure that doesn't happen and it works very well!

So, I am to believe that you folks are in need of and are asking for money, correct? Surely, because of hard working folks out there who make an honest living, I cannot give to you folks.

Nobody ever made it that easy for me!

Note for the slow: This post is host to and maintains a very sarcastic tone. I'd love to donate but simply do not have the extra revenue. I'm down to the last dollar every week and soon I'll have a car payment to take care of. Best wishes in your attempts to acquire cash.

Is monthly recurring the only way to donate right now or can a one-time donation be setup?

One note to you all that donate... The way that the system works is that it displays only "confirmed" donations. Once the UP PayPal account sees the cash, then it is "confirmed". That can take a little while depending on your PayPal account's funding option. Essentially, money that is in your PayPal account will confirm nearly immediately. The funding from a bank account or credit card can take longer, generally no longer than one business day, but up to five business days.

Additionally, the bar is currently not displaying subscriptions. I am working with the developers to get that added.

Once you click through to the PayPal site, we lose site of the transaction, and so the forums think that you have donated. This isn't necessarily true (like you get to PayPal and think "never mind."). There are changes to the donation plugin coming that will fix this, but they are in early alpha by the developer.

In the meantime, for the sake of my and Zinia's sanity, please don't click the "Donate" button on the donation page unless you mean it (we get PMs when someone clicks the button, whether they donate or not).

One other thing, while we have entries for 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100, you can also choose a custom amount by selecting custom.

The UPcoming integration of the donation module with subscriptions and the full PayPal API (so the module automatically counts only those that complete the donation when fully confirmed by PayPal) will make it more real time as well as remove the work that Zinia has to do on the back end.

One more note to this:

When people donate "more than we need", then it gives UP the ability to look at other things as well, like prizes for competitions, paying for server needs (additional memory, more HD space, etc.), and things like that. We don't want to just take from the community, ultimately, we like to give things back. We've had some wonderful members that have donated prizes and the like... And we certainly appreciate that...

But... I'll say this... I'd love to give away a nice PC/high end vid card/great gift card combo for a "Make something Unreal Playground contest"... Without having users donate the stuff. Eventually, if we get big enough, we may be able to get companies to donate stuff... But we may just have to start up on our own.

Surplus is a good thing, and don't think we won't put it back out into the community.

However, I have never been able to successfully download any maps from my dialup connection. You, do not support resume and I consistently get a couple hundred Kb and the connection times out. I cannot get any other type of connection from this geographic location. I generally use a download manager, this does not work on your site. My only hope is to find the exact file name and hope to find another site it has been uploaded to and download it from there.
Bottom line, if I cannot fully use your site, I'm sorry I cannot support it either.
