Is there a way to dowload the full install of the latest internet explorer without having to download that lame 495K setup file that connects to the internet to download the rest of IE?
I've had some CD's that i've gotten that contain the full version of IE 5.. but i was wanting to upgrade to 6.

Is there a way to get the full version for IE 5.5?
I have 5.0. I see service packs for 5.01 and not for 5.0.

Sorry, Tekgod... I have been running IE6 for about 2 months on a couple of my other boxes with no problems... One of them is a Win2K server and the other is a Win2K Pro. They are both running the latest service pack and have had no problems whatsoever.
Now... As far as finding the complete download... Very odd... It seems that M$ has removed the Full Download options from their site... I will poke around a bit more and see if I can find them.

I knew it had to be out there somewhere... And it is... It's just REALLY discombobulated, twisted, jacked, AFU, Tango Foxtrot, whatever you wanna call it.... Hehehhehe
When you click on that link to download it, don't Run it... Save it to an easy directory... If you use c:\downloads, you can just cut and paste from my example. So let's say you save it to c:\downloads.
Go to start, run... and paste this in there:
"C:\Downloads\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"
If you type that stuff in, just so you know, this is all case sensitive, and those are double quotes, not single quotes.
After you do this, it will ask you what OSes you want to download for, and where you want to save them...
That will be $50. I'm undercutting M$ by $5. Hehehehehhee.

Hrmmm okay I think i'm even more confused now.
KFC.. your link led me to a site that SEEMED to let me download the full version of IE 5.5. When I clicked on English and Go it took me to a page that had this on it:
Download
Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2
17 MB Download File
2 hr 22 min @ 28.8 kbps
Right there it says 17 MB. But actually it's 500 KB. So once again, it's just another setup to connect to the internet and download IE.
Kingster.. your method seems to do the same thing.
I appreciate the help guys. I'm paranoid I guess and I don't really trust MS all that much. Plus, I just don't see the logic in downloading a file so that I can download another file???
Maybe i'll just download the latest Netscape.. :(

DON'T RUN IT!!!! After you download it, don't tell it to open, or open folder, or anything... Just close the dialog box.
Follow the directions in my post... Save it to c:\downloads. Then cut and paste (the WHOLE THING - quotes and all):
"C:\Downloads\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"
Into the run box under start. I just did it. Worked fine for me... It looks the same for the first dialog box. Click next, and you will be presented with the choices...
Here is the Microsot article on it...
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q257/2/49.ASP
As far as the download one file to download another file thing... The initial thing is actually a download manager.... so if you get disconnected in the middle, it can restart from where it left off...
Anyway... try it again... and see what happens... Just remember to click next... :)

Yes Virginia, you must use the MS download manager to do this thing - c'mon, it's Microsoft for goodness sake- Bill's way or the highway!
I have a folder on my D drive named downloads. In it, I have stuff, programs, insallers etc. d/l'd from the net (go figure). I SAVED (not opened) the (in my case) IE6 intaller to this directory.
Then, I ran the installer. The rest of the download/install process, I'm sure you are quite familliar with. If you ever have any problems with IE after that, you'll always have your trusty D/L
manager in your "Downloads" file for a quick (depending on your connection) re-install.
IN BILL WE TRUST

P.S.: King's way will work as well- It's just that it's for guys like him with big brains that actually know what their doing.:D

Kingy-
I see what it was that you were trying to say and I finally got to the point that i was just about to let that damned "download manager" connect to the internet. Then I found a site where I could actually download the full version of IE 6.
So I'm happy :) But IMO, it's BS that you can't just download the whole browser (just one file) and install it like you can with other programs.
Thanks guys!

Cough it up... What is the address that you got it from???
Sheesh... All that, and you don't even tell us where you d/l'ed it from??? Damn... :D

There should be absolutely no speed problems there - that's my ISP web space (all three files fitted made up 97% of my quota:-) )

w00t!
Ok, late to the party as always. But, if I remember from my IE6 install on a 98se machine (no probs with it , btw).. there is an option within the d/l manager to just save all the install files, and not actually install them. I know that doesn't actually get around the use of the d/l manager but at least you only have to use it once. I know you already have the files, the url, the bag of chips, and the coffee, but there ya have it. :p
