Uploads and
Downloads
are now working.
Please go ahead and give them a try.
If you find some issues, post back in this thread.
Thanks!
The Downloads link is working from the forums, but not from the main page. :dunno:

Great work, while the new layout was a little confusing at first I was soon navigating around no troubles, finding files easily. One question though, I was going to try out the upload functionality with a map I've been working on but didnt want to post it as a final version. There does not appear to be a subcategory called BETA any more for each game category. Is this deliberate or still on the todo list?

That's still on the To DO list.

Works now, and it looks awesome - very easy to search through, and I see we have both user ratings and comments now, as well as multiple screenshots. Sweet. :D

I can’t begin to describe how many countless hours your website has brought to me and my son. We play; poorly I might add. But the most excitement we have is that moment before a new, unexplored map opens up. Thank you all. You are providing an absolutely wonderful service.

the new download section looks awesome! very easy to search thru, and multiple maps each with its own small picture makes finding interesting maps a breaze!
thanks.

Looks nice, gj. One little question though: In the old system I could link to my maps and have this list with screen shots etc, now the only option is to link to my user profile. The maps ends up at the bottom of the page without pics and people need to scroll and click to see them. Could it be done like on the old site?
Also the upload system isn't really intuitive for new mappers, a quick link with instructions in the nav bar would be nice.

I'm wondering what a few of the features inside the individual map listings are.
Pin; I'm assuming this is to tag a map so it can be brought up easily at a later time. "Unapprove" has me stumped, and being told to go crawl to a college dictionary while searching for a definition makes me think a more common term could be used. (I'm guessing this is a default of the bulletin board software.) The only other quibble is that "Date" might be clearer as "Date uploaded."
I'm debating over the use of the thumbnail as a download link. It makes sense, but having used the old system I was expecting an enlarged screenshot.

1 question - I get told there's a CTF map for UT3, but when I go "Oooh! How swift!" and go check there appears to be nothing there.
As for Dorko's thumbnails/downloads comment, you might be able to get round that by having download/view screenie text links under the image?
Best of both worlds :D

Downloads area is excellent. Nice work Kingy!
One little thing, the download category images need some tweaking for use on the dark background. There is leftover white pixels around the buttons, looks kinda crappy on the black theme.
Of course the importance of this problem is minimal, but thought I would point it out.

Unfortunately, the downloads area doesn't allow for proper skinning of their buttons, so... The button sets will look borked on one of the skins. Since the default skin is the new one, and since we made the decision that change is *good*, the buttons were made for the light background. Sorry!

great stuff (works for me :D
i haven't searched as to whether this one has been mentioned (srry if the suggestion has already been made, but :
How about adding an additonal category (besides specific gametypes) for each ut version - category "Other"...? This would allow for mappack zips.
Of course, this might be a problem due to bandwidth, but the idea being that mappacks are a popular means of aquiring a collection of consistant custom maps (rather than having to find and download individual maps, if those maps are even made available)
anyhow, just an idea :D

i sincerely agree with that , lot of great mappacks were made by this community , such as CTC, FoT, LowPoly , W00t , Blito300k ect ... and many maps from these packs are not available in single download ...this could also encourage new mappack ( thinking about the lowpoly pack started on BU by Hourences for UT3 , for exemple ) a category for this would be really awesome ..

It seems to have gone back to it's old ways, or never was fixed. :( I was sure hoping to get this working. :moreconf:
It tells me that I need to slow down that I have to wait 60 sec. lol makes me feel like a teenager again. :D
Anyways... The file starts, then fails about 500kb or so. ...It will just stop. :dunno:If it's on my end then what am I doing wrong? I'm using a slow laptop, but it will do this on any of the three working computers I have. So I'd assume that it was either my connection or the server. I've checked on a few other sites around, but they work ok. My browser EI, or FF will both do the same.
I'm running XP home.
My FireWall is off.
I've used only one open window, not searching, ect...
I've allowed Up in scripts, and cookies.
I'm on DialUp, and an AirCard for a connection. The dialup gets about 3.0kb a sec. The Aircard anywhere from 5kbs to 25 kbs.
I've even asked it nicely, but to no avail?
Maybe if it did have a resume, this might not be a problem for me?
It's the same as in the PM that I had sent to you earlier.
Heres a SS. As you can see 6 of them were from me? :weird:
Thanks!

Ah - cheers Hostile, thank to your pic I just noticed the "My Files" nav-bar link in the downloads section - sorry if this has been mentioned already, but are there any plans to add that link to either our public profiles, or to the avatar/location area next to our posts?
(kinda like the My Maps button from the old UP?)
I can live without it for sure, but it was often interesting to look through a list of a poster's maps while browsing a thread & having the link by their name was cool.
*EDIT* Gah, what a knob'ead - I just looked in my own profile to see if it would be a good place for the files list, and found the list of my maps already there! :p

Can we add basic html formatting for the posted maps, or have any tags automagically removed?
I'll tidy mine up shortly, but I notice that some map descriptions display tags like <b> and <br> in plain text.
No biggie really - I'm sure you're hard at work with more important stuff :D

I clicked a link to dl a map last week. First link I clicked since plugging back into teh netz and seeing the new site, and I got a filefront or some such redirect. I sat there for a second speechless. Clicked on a few more to see what I would get and those were hosted "locally."
Perhaps then just better delineation of source? Because the one I checked first didn't actually any UP dl available. I don't want to see this become a trend is all.

Just so you all know, the package we're using for downloads does allow a person to just put a link in, however, it wasn't my intention to allow that. about the file size - there's much bigger zipfiles files in your db (heh, a number of my ut map zips are 20-36 megs)
i'm pretty sure there's some ut2k4 map zips quite a lot bigger than that, tho, i have in my repository that are near 70 megs, lol! i hope the upload/download bandwidth isn't capped or something !?

okee, FireFox worked fine - I'm happy with that :)
Before I used FF, I did try the upload again with ie7, and it failed. Please see the attached screenies which i've included FYI. Two things: 1. The javascript error appeared the moment i clicked the add button when starting the upload.
2. The progress bar eventually appeared to show the upload finished but a 404 page came up rather than the "success" notification page.
I did not try to upload using ie6...
FireFox 2 worked great, and showed the map's MyFiles details page afterwards where i added some images - good stuff!
Hopefully the approval process isn't too much of a strain on you guys!!
If you don't mind my asking, What's the usual "turn-around" time for your approval queue? Is that an activity you do weekly? just wondering :)

Approvals? Yours should have been approved automatically... I have some logic in place that after X number of posts/uploads, moderation is skipped. However, I had turned that off temporarily the other day trying to get some other stuff running.
Anywho... It's back in place now. Yours won't hit the mod q now. For the ones that do? I need to get some others in place to do it, I just haven't had a lot of time to do stuff recently. I really need to go back to my traveling job, just so I have time to work on this place. :D

Hi .. may be worthwhile to add in the FAQ the term "moderation queue" as it relates to recent uploaded files that you would like to download.
When I'm under My Files and after I recently uploaded a map and view the file it states it is in moderation Q.. Basically I guess this means no one can download it including myself. When I try to download it I get the "do not have permission".. I hope this is normal..? or perhaps a different message like file is to new for download or something...
Do you have info on how long a recent upload remains in this state and can't be downloaded and provide assurance to us "non" pro's that everything is ok so we don't go crazy scratching our heads... Thanks A Bunch !!
ps sorry if I'm messin up your forum.. I don't post normally...
