View Full Version : Ut2003 disappointed me a lot...
I think that UT2003 lost all the great features that made Unreal Tournament a fantastic game! I find it very "Quake" but with very few game speed and bad pathnoding... and also graphically I find Unreal Tournament more realistic... I'd like to talk with someone to know if my point of view is common...

well I guess it's good that the game's not out yet then, huh?
i have my reservations, but since splitting development back up i have a little more faith in them to get it right again..

I think Freak is correct. DE took over the game because it wasn't turning out right. The newer movies I have seen of recent builds look much more "UT'ish". I think this may have something to do with the delay in release as well.
The 927 build was definately Quakish.(From what I heard since I don't have any illegal software on my rig)

I've been somewhat critical about the direction that the game was taking. However I'll try not to be too judgemental t'il I see the final product and hope for the best. It seems to me there was a deliberate attempt to take features from other games like quake3 and combine it with consolish type features and gameplay in an attempt to be all things to all people including the console players. It seems like Epic has been listening to some of the crtiticism and has changed stuff like those green glowing health items. Frankly to me it would not matter if the maps were bad or the pathnoding messed up simply because these things are easily fixed by mappers and modders. However weapons and the look of the weapons and gameplay and game items are a fundamental part of the game and if those things are not set right then that could be cause for concern. I would have liked to see them keep things that made UT great then introduce a radical new gametype that incorporated vehicles, and classes.....It would not make sense for them to copy UT exactly or the game would die quick for UT veterans due to the "been there done that" factor. But hey the game might turn out great and I appreciate the work that has gone into it thus far! Just wait and give it a chance.....

I can honestly say I haven't played the demo so I have no clue about it. I do look forward to the new editor though, that is what I am most excited about :)
I'm italian so I don't understand perfectly english but have I understood well that they've making a better version of UT2003???? So this makes me cry... :-) I bought it for nothing!!!! 10 euros... ****!!!! :moreconf: but I sincerely hope that I've understood bad... but if it's real that Epic took away UT2003 from the commerce to work out after a better work I'm happy because I really need something more Ut'ish but I'm also sad for my money!!!! :hammer: POOR ME!!!!
P.S. GO SEE CTF-((MirrorOfTime)) :D :D :D

what I've seen is good on the vid clips...but then again i liked the dynamic lighting on doom3(that cool black shadow cast) more surreal then UT2003.

In my eyes, i cant fathom the game being bad. After looking at some of the new pictures released, and teh movies at GameSpot, there is no doubt in my mind this game is going to be bad in any aspect. If you havent gotten this new download Manager from Gamespot yet, it needs to be gotten now! Its for the people that dont want to pay a dumb amout of money for alittle feed back, its 100% free!

Oh yea, Eventully the ability to search for clips in the Download Manager will stop after you close it. So for after you close it the people powering the download Manager have a site for you to download clips.

@5t0, well um, UT2k3 hasn't come out yet. I don't know what you bought, but the demo isn't even out yet. There was an illegal leaked demo that went out, but that is about it. You must have been ripped off or something because there is no game to buy, never was.
I heard the AI wasn't implemented yet in the leaked: maybe this is why pathing sux so much in this version...
As for the Qish look which has been "banned": I'm really not convinced we can blame the guys from DE for this 'cause UT2K3 has always been under Epic control... I think the fact there was so whining from the community about the visuals of this leaked is more responsible for the changes...

It seems to me that most FPS are made as single player games and then towards the end the designers go "hey, let's make this multiplayer so we can put it on the internet and stuff" progammer 2 says "hey yeah good idea, let me just modify a little bit of code* - insert electronic sounds- "ahh done. finished"
Unreal Tournament however was made to be multiplayer from the start, from the initial conception, from the inception of the idea that brought FORTH the mere thought of UT. If you get my drift. Quake, Serious Sam and others were made to be FPS first and multi later. There are things about UT that for some reason make it playable again and again. After much thinking I've decided that the biggest component is the Xloc. The xloc transforms what could be a very boring repetative game to a dynamic mobile game.
Think what CTF would be like without the Xloc? RUT ROH
And to me it sounds like the designers might have ruined the game with a limit on Xloc throws.
Let me clarify briefly. With the xloc you don't have to fight all the newbie flack spammers in the middle that do nothing to the game but make it stupid and inane. You take away that xloc and now what? No more xlocing past those guys.....
I've tried getting into America's Army and Battlefield 1942 but OMG I am bored out of my mind. I keep hitting my xloc key. I run around for 5 minutes, run into an enemy, there is a brief and inane exchange of machine gun fire and I'm dead. Woohoo?
The Xloc is a "keystone" part of UT and I hope they haven't ruined it.

well maps have to be designed for action. So they better be small enough so that the enemy cant hide to well. if its too big
which i believe some the maps will be. U will have to reduce the flag cap down to 3.

Let us wait, and judge the game when it's out? Shall we??? :D
Maybe it's differend than UT, well I sure hope so!! Not much fun buying a game that is the same as the previous game is it....
I know I know, we talk about game play right? Well we can not judge gameplay, simply because the game is not out yet. Don't judge the game play from the 'leaked' version.
It's like this: When I make a map and it's in BETA phase it pretty much sucks, That's is way it is in BETA phase, It's the basic idea of the map with rought bot pathing and rough textures and a rough lay-out. After that, it can be tweaked to be a good map that hopefully ppl like...
UT2003 is the same thing. The version every1 used to judge is like the BETA map...
So please, no more of this....:angst:
Two weeks, and you too will be playing the demo (or not?):loopy:
Squirrel u were right, in fact I've talked with "Palka", an italian mapper (I think u know him, the author of DM-Ianus), and I could talk with him in italian, so it was easier to understand each other :) and he confirmed that I've been ripped off, I think I've bought this illegal version of UT2003... So I only hope that the real version of UT2003 will be better than the one I have... no, I'm sure it'll be better, because if it remains like the one I have it'll be a failure!!! Thanks to everybody for your answers... now I have clear ideas...
Poor me I've spent 10 euros for nothing!!!! :hammer:
