Can anyone help me design a cheap little laptop for around 200 dollar, give or take a few? I would mainly need it for typing, internet, and to hold some
music.

Basically, i would need an e-machine-ish laptop. Any ideas for the specs?

E-machine :p

Just buy a snail/dell, or any name brand. they come with more software, waranty's, ect. ect. cheeper than you can build 1. also if you just need for surfing, typing, so on, then even the slowest laptops will do. :type:

Dont buy used, unless you know the person.
Also, look into whatr you are buying. A lot of laptops are too hot to have on your lap... Id suggest doing a little research in finding a good one.
My folks have toshiba laptops, and I can say that toshiba usually makes great products. Unfortunately, the one Ive messed around with has the aforementioned heating issue. I do not think that this is a problem with most of their laptop lines though.

One of the newer gimicks for laptop users are scribble screens. I havnet tried one, but if you plan on using a laptop for notetaking....its sure a hell of a lot faster/legible to type. Dont buy into gimmicks because it seems cool. I know you ar elooking for low budget, I cant imagine these being cheap..just a bit of advice if you get sucked into spending all sorts of money.

Also, I remember you being in high school when you worked on the halloween pack. Curious, are you going to college now?
If so, I suggest holding off until you start school. Wait till you really need it.(and you should probably get one with a dvd player too, I know a kid that has hundreds of movie/tv dvds he pulled off his college network.)

Why don't you go with a Pocket PC or a Palm Pilot?

You can type. Use wireless internet (and can hook up a cable to it if you have an attachment, I think). And It can hold music (and a Pocket PC has Windows Media Player 10).
