View Full Version : Original and Classic maps

With the release of UT2003 right around the bend (we hope), I was wondering if, right before the change-over to 2003 that the Playground could have a regulars night with the original maps, along with a few of the classics?
This could be sort of a way to say goodbye to UT as we usher in 2003.
Any thoughts, suggestions?

That might be sorta fun..I'm not sure how some of those will do with 20 peeps, but a few of the originals mixed in with the best of the maps here would be fun.
Though it's not like there's going to be a huge 2k3 transition; one server will remain for UT..

if we're going to play classic map, this must be on
CTF-Gauntlet.

Yeah...I remember Gauntlet.
I would say maps like Gauntlet, November, LavaGiant, Hydro16, Orbital, Face (maybe...love it or hate it is IS a classic; just dont know how well it would work with 20 people), Dreary.
And a few of the "newer" classics:
DiamondSword, CivilWar, ect.

IMO the only original maps that would hold 20 players and still be fun would be Face and Gauntlet. November and LavaGiant could handle that many players, but I always felt the bases weren't balanced. I think Dreary is aweful even with small player loads, it would be pretty much impossible to get out of that horrible small door in the flag room with 20 players ( or 16 player for that matter ). It would be cool to have a couple classics though, and maybe each reg can pick 1 map to include in the rotation or something like that. That'd be a lot of maps though, so maybe only the regs that spot the thread where you can ask for a map get to pick one. :hammer:

hmm face with 20 players would by a stalemate for most of the game eternal caves is my fave (camping in the blue base behind the flame is funny)

I play Facing Worlds all the time with 20+ people: it rocks!
Still the best map for CTF IMHO although ShirleyFT's critique is quite valid.

I've played Dreary with 16 players several times and it's still very possible to cap. I think it's a fun, intense map.
Some good custom classics that haven't been mentioned yet: Cola Wars, Bad Neighbors V2, Bedrooms 2a

I would love to play Lavagiant on the Playground. Now there is a map I haven't played in quite a while.
See you inside...

I'd like to see a conversion of ctf-badneighborsv2 - one of the best maps imo... well, maybe if they took out the anti grav boots.

There are a lot of UT maps I'd like to see converted to 2k3..
And the boots in badneighbors are half of why it's so damn great; they really open up the map to flag carriers. :D

Agreed. That map would be painful if you couldn't grab the jump boots to find a second way out of the base.

First map i'm making is "2 big boxes filled with lava UT2K"
j\k
I actually wan't to make a level where i work, in a steelworks.
Mainly because all the steelworks maps i've seen are very gay, and look nothing like a real one.
I tried with UT, But alas, all steel mills are set up in HUMUNGOUS sheds, so all geometry is on screen at once, and poor old UT can't take the polys.
So i'll have a go with UT2K.
And finally, people can see a "REAL" steelworks, without the smoke in the eyes, burns, and constant ass pinching.
