I was browsing through the official forums and came across a post saying there will be no swimming in the game. Then looked at the IRC logs, and Mark Rein confirms that:
<gilm0re> MarkRein! Finally...Perhaps my answer can be questioned!, Riddle me this. Is there swimming? I like to swim. But the main question is, if you are under water do wepons and whatnot fire slower? Will there be any sort of boost you can pull off?
<MarkRein[Epic]> gilm0re--> I don't think there's any swimming this time
That's insane :D . Has to be a misunderstanding.....

LOL!
No worries I just went back there to make sure I wasn't hallucinating, and there was an update saying that the maps in the game will no longer have water where a player can swim in, but swimming willl be possible just like it is in UT :cool:

That's confusing. Maps won't have water you can swim in, but swimming is possible?

The maps that come with UT2k3 won't have water deep enough to swim in.
But if a user creates a map..

There are maps in UT2k3 that you can swin in. Plenty of deep water. Trust me.

that explains it, all the water drained out in the leak.

I seen the topic thread and thought that my long awaited underwater map was not gonna happen.
but thankfully swimming will back in 2003 :cool:
Ive tried making 2 different different underwater base maps but they always seem to not work out on UT, polys hit the 300s when swimming outside the base... and i wasn't even close to finnished... SCRAPPED!!!

I agree Chrys. You couldn't!
I also agree that swimming is essential to UT. Without it, it would just be another shooter. Uh, a damn good shooter. ;)

Just wondering why swimming is essential for UT? Just about all similar shooters have swimming, so I don't see how it sets it apart from other FPS.
Anyway, I do hope swimming is still possible, it sounds like it will be, because it will probably be essential for a map or two for the mod I want to do.
Besides that though, swimming does seem rather pointless 95% of the time. Though that 5% can be cool :)
