from shellcity.net ........... Detecting the presence of rootkits and the products they are stealthing is not easy. Certainly most anti-virus and anti-spyware scanners can't detect them though a few are just now starting to add features to help with detection. I use Hijackthis and RootkitRevealer from Sysinternals.
never have found one on any machines though.

I used RootkitRevealer once, but the output meant just about nothing to me, so Kingster graciously offered to check it out for anything suspicious. It was a nice program, and appears to have done a thorough job, but it doesn't really help you with removal unless you understand what the program tells you.
