Although thats been the consesus for a while now. I predict it will not be released before 3rd quarter earliest. In fact although it would be nice to have it out early, the longer they wait the better. --Better product, more consumers who will have the hardware to play it. And their UT base will keep growing in the meantime. Plus maybe they will take a look at games like Halo etc.. and try to best it......assuming Halo is as good as some people claim.

Halo is a good game. In my opinion, it's only drawback is it's platform. Bungie originally intended it to be released for PC first, XBox later. Then Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, bought out Bungie and their product line.

I guess if Microsoft can't develop games for their console, they might as well buy companies that can.

I've been looking forward to HALO for some time now, but ever since Microsoft has taken it over, I've lost all interest.

Halo is getting some pretty negative reviews (some good ones too). Mostly negative in that it doesn't look earth-shatteringly better than UT at it's best resolution. Supporters are talking up the quailty of team play... Since it won't show up on the Mac for 6 or 7 years... I may never play it.

actually, I am pleased because GB said that Duke 4 will be out BEFORE Unreal II...so if Unreal II is out in Q2 2002....:D

"Duke Nuke'em Forever" isn't just a clever name. That's how long the development cycle is going to take.

I remember hearing about DNF when ShadowWarrior was a new game. How many others remember the first person shooter, ShadowWarrior?

I remember shadow warrior I think. Never bought the game but I played the demo and had a blast. Thats the one with the sort of japanese theme right? Anyway in that demo there was actually killer rabbits and they could bite the crap outta you :D. At least DNF is using the unreal engine right? If so it will still look cutting edge when it comes out since they bought/lease the rights to all the engine advances that keep coming out. Don't worry its no Daikatana

Yeah, about 8 months into the development cycle of DNF, Epic released Unreal. 3D Realms scrapped everything they had on DNF (using the Quake engine) and started over just to use the Unreal Engine.

That's gotta tell you something.

The Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot, Abomidable Snowman, Duke Nukem Forever, Chubicabra, a perfect woman, UFOs, etc........

Back to the HALO topic for a moment... No, It doesn't look as nice as UT (Or Q2, for that matter) in their best resolutions... But... Remember one thing - the XBOX is designed around a TV. What kind of resolution does your set have?

I happen to have a 1080i HDTV capable set... And Let me tell you... The XBox, with the HDTV adapter, drives it real well. And as for HALO? It just plain ol' kicks ASS.

The graphics (for a TV... Remember that...), are nothing short of awesome. And the game is just a lot of fun to play. I haven't been ignoring you guys... I've been running around HALO for the last 24 hours... Hehhehehe.

I haven't tried the online stuff yet... and I haven't gotten my buddy who bought the XBox and HALO over here yet (we are going to try an XBox LAN party... :) ), but the single player campaign is very cool... I was VERY pleasantly surprised when I found out that it appears to be very closely related to the "Ringworld" books...

Anyway... Enough praise. MM - just 'cuz M$ bought out Bungie for HALO, doesn't mean you should look forward to it. If the XBox version is anything to go on... The PC version will blow the lid off it and we will all become HALO converts... hehehhe. Anybody get the domain name for HALOCTF.com yet??? LOL...

I am considering buying an xbox. I have heard that each box actually costs microsoft 500$$$ to make. They are selling it for 300$. On the other hand, Nintendo("the kid's company"), is getting all their parts from sweatshops in China. So it costs them a whole lot less. If I get a console, I am not getting one from a company that profits off of kids both buying and selling their junk. I'm not saying that Microsoft is much better, but atleast they profit off of adults and not kids.

U are trying to tell me that Halo does not look as good as UT on HDTV when u run UT at super high res. Thats a BIG disaster for X-box if u ask me. But I suspected as much since the publicity shots did not look all that defined, I've also seen some shots from other x-box games that look much better.

Any way I hear Half-life is still a better game. Plus PC gives a much more engrossing gaming experience by far.

Duo: According to this article http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,5099214,00.html, analysts estimate that MS will lose $1 billion (with a 'b') before it starts making any money on the Xbox. Yes, they're losing money on each console they sell, but are probably making $20 - $30 on each copy of a game that is sold. That's where they'll make their money.

Kingster: Just a guess, but I'll bet we don't see HALO for PC until Q2 2003. Since the MS takeover, I have not seen a single release date for PC version.

Sorry, I tend to take HALO topics a little personally. I had been anticipating HALO for PC long before MS made their purchase decision.

Same here, mikey...
Well, after viewing a few videos for Dead or Alive 3 and a couple for Halo, I have decided to get a xbox. Well, I seriously doubt that I will be able to find one now, I guess I'll have to wait until after christmas. Dang, I seriously recommend that everyone should look into getting one.

Face the music. If u do not have HDTV, which 95% of people don't --xbox is really no better than an intellivision or atari - LOL!!

OK--

I played the Xbox yesterday at target for a while... It does look gorgeous... I mean REALLY good... It looks MUCH more realistic than UT but I won't be dropping $300 for one anytime soon... especially with all the games at $50 each.

What resolution u running UT at 640 x 480? :D . I gotta glimpse of x-box on display (did not play it). I disagree it does not look all that good. Of course it should look a little better than UT - UT is almost 2 years old :) . X-box will be outdated in 2-4 years, whereas all u have to do is upgrade your vid card for the pc.

Kingster

See... The only reason UT can look so good is that I can run it in a monster resolution - much higher than HDTV... That aside, The XBox kicks ass as far as a television console game. Period. I haven't seen one better yet. The PS2 doesn't hold a candle nor does the Gamecube.

I shoulda added... the X-Box was plugged into a small (13") Digital FLATSCREEN... it did look great
