Im surprised that this hasnt come up earlier. Has anyone read the Foundation series? Like it? Dislike it? Anyone know what the heck i am talking about? The Foundation series is a set of books that takes place FAR in the future, involves a falling empire, and a man's plan to prevent 30,000 years of barbaric war. I cannot really tell yas what happens after that. :)

Author: Isaac Asimov

Books: Original Foundation Trilogy: Foundation, Foundation and Empire, and Second Foundation.

Expanded Trilogy (These were written much later than the originals, but are still damn good): Foundation's Edge, Foundation and Earth, Prelude to Foundation and Forward the Foundation.

Chronological Order:
Prelude to Foundation, I am so glad Asimov went back and wrote this instead of continuing on after Foundation and Earth. It really sets things up nicely for Foundation.
Forward the Foundation, This book was unnecessary.
Foundation, Good, but nothing spactacular. Some easily find it boring.
Foundation and Empire, The fall of the empire is at hand!
Second Foundation, Probably the single BEST book in the series.
Foundations Edge, The second best book in the series. It's such a shame Foundation and Earth sucked so much.
Foundation and Earth, Such a mediocre ending to such a long and epic story. I guess i was let down a little.

Green = Great, Yellow = Good, and Red = Fair.

The Wiki page on all of these books can be found here. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundation_series)

Yes. I have read the whole series. In fact I've read them more than once. The whole Hari Seldon/Psychohistory concept was fascinating.

As for recommending them, I wouldn't do that unless people enjoy very heavy psychological, "head" fiction. This isn't sci-fi with Wookies and lasers although the later novels do get a bit more space opera-ish.

Asimov wrote some other good serialised stuff too. Worth checking out.

It's been years since I've read the Foundation books but I would probably read them again; time permitting.

I've read them, quite a few times - I'll read Asimov repeatedly, along with Pratchett and King.
