Seen the new trailer yet? If Lucas doesn't add any dialog it should be great:

Freakish..
First of all, spyware bugs the hell out of me. Software that uses it has no place on my computer. They don't need to know me, and I don't need to know them. If I have to look for another piece of software that doesn't contain spyware than I will. Real Networks is a good example of that.. I stopped using RealPlayer a looooooong time ago.
FilePlanet had (in the past) changed their downloads to registered members only. Then, I stopped downloading from fileplanet as I'm not going to take the time to fill out a form giving out my name, address, and birthdate just to download a friggin' file. And no, i'm not going to waste my time typing in false information.
Recently, I've have been downloading from fileplanet because they now have public servers I can choose from and because Ghandi puts his mods and maps on there.
FP has gotten a little better. Before there would be 20 minute wait time just to download a 200K file. It was just unacceptable.
"Nali Sh*tty" or whatever that is, I have no comment on as I don't believe i've been there.
So to answer your question, "is it really worth all the extra work required to avoid these things you don't like?"
I won't give in to that kind of nonsense..so if I have to spend more time looking for an alternative then yes it is worth it. My privacy is important and I wont compromise it just to use someone's piece of software.
And as far as quicktime goes, I just don't like it and I dont want it on my computer. I miss out on some videos because of that, but thats just the way it goes..

Fair 'nuff...
My view is that I'll just disable the spyware (every single time I've come across it, whether in realplayer or bearshare or morpheus or whatever, I've been able to a)disable it, b)uninstall it immediately, or c)just uncheck it and not install it in the first place). I keep very close tabs on my system; especially when I install freeware that could have spyware. The spyware thing is insidious, but controllable for anyone who just pays attention to several key steps in the installation process.
I didn't know FP closed off public servers for a while..every time I used them they had public available, so I didn't see the big deal (except when they're all full[rare for me]..then like you said the 20 minutes ain't worth it).
I'm not saying I like any of these things, but that annoyances (spyware, occasional download waits) are to be expected of anything that's free - so I deal with it instead of dumping the service altogether.
And quicktime's compression is pretty nice..the movie trailers look and sound damn good... I still don't like quicktime because I need a separate player for that *one* video type, but it's in semi-widespread use, so I have it.

I have used many free software programs without any spyware. It's just not necassary to include it in your software. Some companies choose to hide the spyware in their programs, and the average computer user has no idea what is happening..
A good utility that I use is Ad-adware and can be found at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/index.html
It reports and optionally deletes spyware from your computer.
But enough about that.
I think i'll stay out of this topic from now on.
