I know someone who is very very talented in paintshop pro and i was wondering if i could ask for some graphics made for us by her? I know the UP bonus pack is made by UP-ers and was wondering if graphics on the website would require her to join UP if i were to use her art? I could supply some samples of her work if you would like. But just believe me when i say she is very good.
But i wanted to ask if it was okay before i wasted her time if it is not okay.
Thanks X-man. Yes..this is where to post what you want on the site for the bonus pack. I am building it now and if Xepptizz has given you directions to get there then you can comment away and i will do my best to get things the way the UP bonus pack team wants. If there is something you see that you do not like ..then that also should be stated so we can make changes in a democratic fashion. Majority rules and Xepptizz has the veto power. The site will be up and down as i make changes so be patient if it isn't working..or seems wierd....or maybe it is something i missed that needs to be fixed. And since everyone uses different browsers i need to know that things look okay on the different browsers. They may appear different on some so i need to try to get it to look the same as i can on all browsers. Only post pictures if you HAVE to because this should be kept underwraps until the release..it would be better to emmail those directly to me concerning the site.
Of course new banners and graphic stuff probably can be placed here with no problem if Xepptizz says it is okay..which i would guess it is. Then i can grab and insert them in site. Thanks in advance for helping me.

You can ask her to help and she doesn't need to be an UPer. During the long development it became clear outside help would be needed.
As we've gon an unreplaceable outside scripter.
Banners and screens are allowed so people can crit about it al they want. Also, Not a lot of people have the link yet :), I'll send it to some involved people.

Perfect. She is beginning work immediately. I'll post her stuff for tweaks if necessary as soon as i get them.
Also perfect...there is no need to involve very many at this stage...just the main players IMO is perfect!!!

Ey Tex, another thing, the thumbnail you used for the gyrolauncher is an old render, the finished version looks different.
Also, maybe it'd be nice to use consistent backgrounds for the weaponrenders, just a thought.
Having that said we need to make some weaponrenders 3D :)

The site looks great
But for some reason I can't see the entire title screen, the lower right corner of the banner is missing. (I'm using firefox)
also, wouldn't the website map looked better if the weapons and pickups were grouped beneath instead of next to eachother? in columns of four for example? that way there wouldn't be such a large empty space on the right and the site would be more, ... overzichtelijk, The lay out would be clearer and look better I think.
just my thoughts

I only have what i have...lol Make me some renders with like colored backgrounds...I personally really like the mirror floor with shadows like the tri gun. Of course i agree ..they should all be the same in the final version.
Is the gyrolauncher the one that is camoflaged??? i do have that picture. I will replace the one i have with that if that is the final render. I wasn't sure which you were using. I personally like the camo one better. I hope that is the one you all have decided on.
I have gotten other problems with the "title screen" or UPbonus pack logo Nix made(not being centered on some browsers). I am going to put that into a table format and see if it fixes the problems for the different browsers. Just haven't gotten around to that yet but i will by Monday night so take another peek after 8.PM and see if it has been fixed.
I will work up an alternative page with your idea of grouping things on top of each other and we can see which we like best. You have a valid point and it could be an improvement. Let me work up a page your way and i'll put a link and call it (alternative page) at the bottom of the current page so we can compare. But yes i do like that idea. It would probably look better. I just didn't think of doing it that way. I have been trying to keep things so organized that i forget to be practical sometimes..lol

I guess all the weapons should have the same background, or we could do it unlike every other mod with guns out there and do all the renders differently...

I also want to add that for me it would be easier if they were all the same size.
I of course can resize them to be the same but if we are going to make new final renders with similar backgrounds (or even if we have them all different) the making of them all the same size is helpful to me. I wouldn't worry about the file size as i have a compression tool i will use once we get this consolidated that i will use on ALL pics to make the pages load faster.
EDIT: My personal feelings are that the renders should be like the necris death splitter in the ice/snowy ground. Not that all should be in snow but that each weapon should be in a place where it is best suited. For instance a locale that makes it seem to fit with the weapon. I really think 3-D has hit the nail on the head with his renders putting them in a location where you might see them in a map. IVariety is the spice of life and these weapons being so different ..i think it is perfectly normal for them all to have their own unique background.
EDIT FOR TODAY:::: Hey Xepptizz...when you get a chance go out to the main page and see if the logo is now centered on your browser. I think it will be this time.
I am almost done with the extra alternative page. I have made a set...for viewing. 4 coloum and a 3 coloum. I will have to get all the pics the same size to do the page this way as you can see when i get it up (page is not online yet) that the different size pics makes the coloums look bad. This is an easy fix but i just figured i would make a prractice page with the pics i have and when you decide on the one you want i will begin to do the resizing of all the pics on that page to be the same. I think the 3 coloum is the best one because the 4 coloum will be off the page on smaller screen displays. Give me 3 hours and check back on the look around 8PM.
Also i am working on the necris death splitter page to try to get a weapon page sample for ideas and stuff. Check that page out also anyone with time and let me know your ideas on what i could also do with it. I used the gyrolauncher crosshair pic for the NDS gun because there was actually 2 crosshairs named gyro so i picked the one that looked less like the gyro one and used it for the NDFS which did not have a crosshair made for it yet.

Okay i have the new and improved practice page up for you all to take a look and pick what you like better. Go to the main page. Click the logo as usual. Then at the bottom of the pagetwositemap there is a link (alternative page) link. Click that and you will go to the new worked up page with a 4 coloum and a 3 coloum weapon chart. It also has the origional one at the bottom. See what you prefer and let me know. And /or if you want something else...let me know that too. Ha!

The new lay out is definatly an improvement but I think you should also center the top of the site map (with the UT logo). Both three of four columns is fine by me. just do what you think is best.
about the NDS page, that second picture with the green background, is that going to stay there? I think only the first render would do the trick as well.
About those two crosshairs, you guessed right, the one you didn't use is the gyro CH, the other one is the crosshair for the (I believe) yet-to-be-made cryogun. (which really sounds the same when you're sleepy and it's already past three AM)

The Necris Death Splitter page is just kinda getting some ideas of how a weapons page should look so ..don't worry about the green pic. 3-D has made a much better render with views from all angles. That one and/or the icefield pics are probably the winners for sure. I just wanted to put something on it for now..lol
I will look into the centering thing on the site map page...not sure what is not centered but i'll look at it again. I think the logo is centered and the "word" 'links' to each side of the UTlogo pic.But i'll look at it again and see what the html code says. Then the weapons coloums below that with the picture links to each item. Personally i prefer the 3 coloum better because the thumbnails can be a little larger.
The crosshair...yes it probably did say cryo and gyro..Hmmm ..lol Some weapons still need crosshairs made for them.
At Xepptizz..lol at the make the mod first comment..lol I'll ease off a bit and let you guys concentrate on that. I'll just plug along and wait for comments from here on out until things get closer to being completed and we have all the parts. I think i have a decent start and have enough to go with for a while. I'll start working on the other pages and try to begin filling in the bits i have.
Okay okay..lol i will try to get a map background. :D I took some shots of BP but it didn't look very good but i will try again. How about a shot of it in the editor???? The graphics are better in the editor(esp the lighting ) than it looks in game on my computer. I think it is a problem with my new monitor and the way it is set up. I'll check the settings and try to get back my nice graphics for the ingame playing because it used to look better with the old monitor so i think i have something set wrong. The editor still looks great tho.
Okay well..... i might not change too much until after christmas as i have a lot of real life stuff to get together. But if there are any concerns i will get to them as soon as i can.

I gave her the link to this thread. Maybe she will join UP. I think anyone can be converted to become as addicted to Unreal Tournament as us. Ha!
I am hoping she wants to do some more stuff for us so the website can be decorated with some origional graphics to add to the flair of the MOD.
I think she is already taken so i didn't pick her up..lol..just a friendly aquaintence who i hope to drag into the website project with me. lol
She says she loves making stuff and wants to turn pro so i think this would be a good spot on her resume and give her some professional type work but of course at the same rate of pay all of us are getting. Ha! I think she can make some very cool stuff for me if she is up to it. I am just uncertain how i can return the favor. Maybe she will get into UT or simply the project. I don't know what will happen but i will continue to ask for her help if she is willing and has the time. She works fast and is pretty adept at her software so i think she is a valuable asset for the big picture on the UPWeapons Mod as a whole. Time will tell how much she wants to contribute.

Still the Liandri decided to agree to the terms, not knowing what their new colleages, enemies, would bring.
The choice Liandri has made strikes fear in the souls of some fighters and makes het hate towards the Skaarj more fiercly to others.
As soon as the Necris got word of this agreement they didn’t hasitate. And so they demanded equal privileges as the Skaarj. The Liandri had to agree as the popularity for the undead is almost equal to that of Malcom.
But this is all the information the Liandri has provided. Even the Liandri doesn’t know what happens behind the scenes.
So here we stand, today in the year 2407. A new Tournament awaits the newcomers and the veterans. A Tournament bringing new challenges, the weapons for one.

UPDATE:
First 20 seconds of movie finished. I plan to proceed quite a bit further. I was wondering.....if any of the maps for the mod are completed? I think it would be prudent to have a few clips of the new mod stuff inside one of the new maps. or two of the maps...or three..or better still...all of the maps switching from map to map showing the guns and useage.(p.s.) Still need the model also..hehehe) But i have a plan...although it may be somewhat vague....and so i am going to get at least a few minutes together and then begin with some beta suggestions for it. I do not think it would be wise for me to try to direct a movie on this mod without everyone who is involved and get their input as to what they might want me to make and what they might want me to "try to make". :)
But since i am doing it...i have begun on my idea which i think is fine...and when i get most of the stuff done we can start adding in what everyone else wants.
Hope this is okay and if not..i am still making a movie. lol
If there are suggestions now.....i would be enjoying hearing them and you may see it in the first beta version.
My main concern is the length of the movie. (what do you all think it should be.)
And of course...any ideas...i think i can do almost anything after playing around with it. It is a lot easier than i thought although a little tricky sometimes too.
Should there be dialogue?
Fight scenes..a must i assume.
A little humor thrown in...???? I don't have an idea on this tho. lol I have been very serious with it so far. Perhaps something that would make you laugh but still show off the weapons. As a humorous idea i offer....player pawns....hanging around.....with the new weapons....wondering how accurate they are....perhaps one boasting how he/she can shoot the health vial (new) off another player pawns head..... they try it...he/she misses ...gibs everywhere.... And the punch line??? "William Tell you are not"
But anyway..you get the idea...I think we should try to throw a little humor into the movie. NOT THIS IDEA!!!! but a "good" idea would be cool if anyone can think up something for me to try.

I think Lord Simeons line" I was born in a tank" in the outback map got me laughing. I think humor will be important in a tiny aspect to add to everyone's enjoyment.
Okay..enough of that.
Anything else? After all...it is my first full length movie...i really have no clue what i am going to do but with everyone's input i think it will be a decent finished product.

You're so going ahead of things :P, but I like the idea a lot, like a promo vid.
It's too bad you can'tacces the account :(, basicly all taht is finished is located over there, Dedak has finished one map, but I still have to enquiry about Nix' map. Swanky finished one for the mod aswell.
As for fighting scenes, yeah, I had some wicked ideas with slomo's, close-ups, backflips and a lot of melee fights should be cool.
I also was thinkin about a survival-gametype kinda movie, where one kills the other only to get killed by anopther (weapon), while showing the special tactics you might be able to apply.
We'll have to try and get Dark JaXx workin on the music for it though :P
As for humor, primairly a movie to show off how cool the mod is would be great, but small punchlines and such, if implemented nicely, are always a w00t :D
Also, whenever I do get to the point I start animating a playermodel, you can summon me for any kind of animation, but implementing lipsync is a bit too much for me.

i'll try again to get thru to the account.
i am not trying to rush anyone or get ahead of things....but i know how meticulous i can be and so i like to get a head start on things so i can be done on time.
well if you get burned out on modellingskinning etc.. and want to jot down a picture board rough draft of how you see your fight scene i can probably make it happen..no rush!! lol i mean even rough stick figures showing the movements would be enough to show me the details of the fight you want.
i think your survival idea is very good...we could do it all in one arena if you prefer; thus eliminating the possibility of using all the new maps. it would be easier for me too that way. i already have a movie map made that handles the opening scene and was kinda working on continueing thru and building sections adding to the map in a different area that i can cut to that scene...but i really am not in the mood for mapping. i can't seem to get my groove on in that department. this movie is making me learn new things and it is fun right now so i guess i am going to rely on having a map to make it in by some other author. this works very good for me. If there are two maps made..perhaps i should get them both and see which one i would prefer to work with.
i would love to have dark jaxx do the soundtrack. that would be great and alleviate a lot of time for me to do other things. Of course if, he isnt interested, i can do it..but i would prefer that he did it as i like his musical originality and think it would be a big plus to have him involved.
i am totally on track with you about.. the movie should be a way to show off everything in the new mod. i am glad you agree we should try to throw a little humor in there somewhere too!
As far as lip synching..i will be playing with that during the next 2 weeks. i will post more when i know more and can discuss what i might need with a little bit of intelligence. there are a few ways to do lip synching so i will neeed to decide which road i want to take.
And i am not trying to jump ahead at all. y'all just keep going doing what you all do. i have plenty to do here with the website and the introduction to the mod movie. i just basically am trying to give you a what's around the corner...a heads up...for the future!

Ah, that's a good mentallity you've got there :).
I'll try to contact DJ. I just hope he isn't busy or will be when the music can be added. I Haven't heard a lot about Zeta either (a map he was working on for UP)
As for the stickfigures thing, I think you've got some good wiring upstairs and will be able to churn out a sweet movie. Heck, your post have become more and more Professor-ish over these days :P.
What will you actually use to make the movie? Wich program I mean. If it's Maya than I can't do much in the animating area.
As for me being burned out on modelling/skinning etc, convincing your mind not to be is the trick :P

Right now i am using UMS1.6 to build the movie. Darn lucky to find it hanging around on one of my old cd's. It has practically vanished from the internet. I think i got it back in 2000 but never really understood it back then. So i burned it on a cd and put it on a shelf..well actually in a box in the garage) . I dug it out and have been playing with it for a while. It can do the animation that is on any given model by triggering the animation.That part is easy. As far as dialogue and expressions on faces you can either animate the whole model or create a head to use with different mouth formations on a and use a table which tells the head to form a certain mouth shape. There is also a way to do it by creating skins but i am not up on that. I will look into it though and see. I might try to do some with the existing player pawns and see if i can do it without your animating. I know you are busy!!!!!! I think i can handle it but i will let you know if i need a special move or something and we could have certain "moves" or gestures" animated for the new models for the movie and also double as taunts. Taunts are great for the movie. All i would have to do is call for it and it would play that bit of animation. Once the model animation is done...i can use any of them(individual animations) easily like i said by simply triggering the animation and telling it how 'fast' to play the frames.
The tough part is going to be the facial expressions and the lip synching. If it looks too difficult to tackle alone i might ask Lord Simeon or Angel Mapper for help as I think they have the knowledge i will need to do it. I will try to figure it out on my own first. They are busy also, i know!
Anyway, once i play with the animation on the lip synching and the skin method i will post again to explain what i may want. But right now i think i can "get-r-done". I am still learning so i really do not know what to ask for..lol
As far as maya...i have worked with it for years off and on and still am lost. That program scares me. lol :hammer: Nurbs! I doubt i will be able to create anything professional with maya. Lack of skill and time to learn it. I think i might do better with blender if i have to get into the animating myself.
I am not sure what program i will use to format it from unreal to a video format. Another thing i need to get figured out. Not sure what frapps is but it is somehow related but from what i have heard about it...it is kinda limited. That part doesn't scare me tho. I am sure i can get it converted somehow.
Did any of that make any sense? Ha!

It made sense to me :),
UMS is great, coz it won't be a hassle porting the anims. For the Facial expressions I might consider modelling in a simple mouth. And I've seen the thing with different skins, it looks very cheesy as you can only have a max of 8 skins, so fluid transitions are a no.
And yeah, fraps is a very limited screencapture program, but in combination with nother movie editing app should produce good results.
Also, if you're using fraps it means we could even use it as an alternative levelintro map! Wicked. Dang, we really need voice-actors.

I think the way UMS does the other method is by having what they call a "movie head" So you can have any model...and use the 'movie head' on it. So basically you create a movie head with different mouth formations animated from an "o" sound to an "ah" sound etc and by chopping them into the words you are saying it creates the lip synching. I think this is how i should try to do it. I am no animator..but if i had a head and a wire frame..i might be able to work out the details of the mouth shapes and maybe an eyebrow lift or two..lol Perhaps even a wink.

And yes it can be an intro movie if you like. That is how i have been watching it now and making the changes i need. Fire it up like a map.

Well i haven't gotten to the "action" part yet..but i will. lol I am more on the "dramatic" part and setting the scene.
Yes top secret to everyone but xepptizz. Once i get it more going i want to let in a lot of the people who worked hard on the mod to give their suggestions on what they would like to see done too since it will be representing their hard work. But since we are really ahead of the game now i would like to keep it under wraps for a while longer.

Yes, it's better to hold down the files for a while...you never know who already has the movie when the mod comes out! :p It's always like this...just be very carefull with good ****...I will also send the soundtrack to the UPmod acount on gmail. It's also cool to have some breaks and then, pure action! Our models doing great jump and tricks etc. And then the model see something....wait, and then jump over the bridge for example.. ;)

I just discovered this. It is an easy photoshop manipulation for text.
Just wanted some feedback. My plan is to use the unreal font. (which i don't have but am pretty sure i can get) anyway..use the unreal font and add this cool "yikes i'm on fire" effect to it. This will be for the headers and large titles on the website. Smaller font might be too hard to read so i don't want to use it everywhere.
Any thoughts on the look? By the way..this is simply IMPACT font. I will try to get the unreal font and do up another test title tonight or tomorrow.
@Dark Jaxx..Sorry i haven't gotten the opening movie to you yet. I kinda got side tracked with the movie credit maps thing. I will try hard to get it to a close to finished state and send to you as soon as that is done

Unreal Font. I got it free from the internet and it came with no readme so i am assuming it is free to use. Wish i knew who made it.

I know wich tutorial you've read :P. But, it does looks very nice. Also, this is how it me learned the power of pallettes.
So this is for the website ey? Yeah, it would be kinda static in Unreal and prolly lose some quality when scaled down to 256x256.
One thing I'd change though, maybe just a simple gaussian blur on the text would do, but it would be great if the edges of the text could be softened to make it more"affected" by the flames.
I bet a gaussian or perhaps motion blur set to a low value would be suffice.

The actual black text is overlayed after all the fire stuff is put on the initial text. So yes i did not alter the overlay text so it would be easy to read. I will try experimenting with some filters and see if i can get the fire to blend in with the letters. Perhaps have it where it is only on fire left right and top and no fire at bottom????
To "soften" the text i think what might work better would be to blend the layers into each other rather than bluring the text but i will try several techniques (and write them down so i can reproduce it.) and we can decide what we like the best.
That site had some pretty bad tutorials. The tutorials were all good and well done and explained clearly but the effects they created were for the most part not very useful to me. I did like the fire text and the nebula tutorials. The rock one was ok too. I thought the neon light one was cheesy! I've never seen a neon light look like that before. lol I even tried several different things to make it look better...to no avail.

Well, the opening scene isn't what you would want for the background as it is a "that was then" scene proceeding to the "THIS IS NOW!!!!!" scene. the latter is what you would want i think. I'll see if i can get a good picture for you even tho it isn't quite there yet.
I am sending the first scene to Dark Jaxx as soon as i find out where to send it. It needs some stuff but is working well enough to send. Seems to look best on glide but when i transform it to a movie i need to figure out how to get a spectator to see fog. I might be able to death match it and get the fog to show.

Anyway, you got pm with tha mailadress (gmail acount) my hands are itchin to go @ work :) But I can't merge the video with the music together...what I will do is, analysing the video and see when and how the best thing is to do...I can imagine that will be very hard, because the timing needs to be good, also a track has a constant BPM (Beats per Minute) means that it's hard to time if some scenes are played faster after each other then others...but I will fix that, it will only take some time to perfectionate :)

I think I saw the movie and I like the plan, but it was a bit dark for me, really dark. Does that mean the lighteffects didn't work?
I also saw the stuff you were working on in Ued, looks good.

no not yet(18 minutes) lol but i expect it to be around that long when finished. this clip i believe is about 20 seconds. it's at the gmail account. and remember that i can speed or slow the camera speed to match a bit of music if needed and also i can add pause or a camera pan for delays too. i think this clip should hasve it's own separate music crescendo-ing to the rest of the trailer. in other words..a cool tune building until you see the words "that was then"......because it is going to cut to some intense new stuff right after that. i think the fight scene is next on the movie scroll.
at xepp, the map seems to look really different depending on the d3d/glide/or whastever driver you use. of course it looks best in the editor. lol i'll have to get my old monitor out if i can't get a better picture on this one.
And yes some of the fog is not working right. look at it in the editor ..this is how i want it to look. the yellowish white flares should show in editor but they are behind the door and won't really appear until it opens in movie. just a few bugs i didn't get worked out yet. but you can see how that old intro level looks as i have recreated it (not duplicated!!) it might look similar but it was made from scratch.
About the p[icture..the lighting stuff i was talking about was that the screenshot had all the sunset colors but your model was white light so i sunset colored him up on the second picture i put up to match the environment.
If you want me to put a flare on the sun or something like that i can give it a whirl. I just sent the origional screenshot that i started with. I thought that was what you wanted. I am using the second pic as my desktop and when it popped up today it caught me by surprise. It looks cool.

I did look in the editor and the fog looks nice, but it still looks rather dark, some hidden triggered lights are bound to be in there :P.
As for the desktop, it looks much better and what you sent is exactly what I asked for ;). Something I recently found out though, is taht UT's fov is 90 degrees on default, but the image looks a lot less distorted when using a fov of 45 degrees, just press tab or open the consolewindow thingy and type in "Fov 45". It might work better for the desktops to be, the current ones aren't to shabby either ;).
Also, Sabbathcat should be passing on the original UPlogo soon :O.

That's a neat trick about changing the fov to get clearer pictures.
I've got 53 degrees for my movie cameras.
And yes there are tons of triggered lights. lol Yup. Been a while since i actually was building that part. Got a lot of things going on all at once here. Hard to remember one project to the other. I can certainly brighten it up with a few more lights on the arena walls. I thought about that too even tho it eliminates some of the shadows...but those textures are not real condusive to shadowing even with high shadow detail and 4x-ed scaled down. They are just too grey. (or 'gray' for us americans)
The next map i almost have ready for mathlete i'll try to get a screenshot for it within the week. Hopefully this weekend. So i can send to him and let him play with some detailing.
Also i would like to see any (???if ready) completed maps for the mod and see if there might be some cool areas of those maps to include into the movie trailer. Are they at the gmail?

And I haven't heard much of HortonsWho I'm afraid :/. Oh yeah, and a nearly done one from DarkJaXx. Nix has finished one for most part (aside from botpathing) and might have a few in the works, not sure.
And time-permitted, I might dig up an old one of mine, coz all this skinning and modelling has got me itchin for good ol' mappin.

Very nice Coreper.
I think it would be a cool idea to maybe offer several desktop themes for the mod. Put it on the website for free download. Have a whole page of several different desktops using the maps and models and weapons etc in the pack to not only show them off but to keep the mod on their desktop and in their head for longer. Any thoughts on this? Just an idea..it wouldn't be too hard to come up with several thematic ideas to make a desktop theme for. Anyway, just thought i would suggest the idea and see what everyone else thinks.

By the way...the web stuff is on hold.The computer that died had that on it. Don't worry ..i still have all the files since i saved the hard drive...but the program won't work. I should have it reinstalled this weekend. I have been finishing up the maps in the interim. That banner is perfect for the webpage imo. The other one was simply too large. I also revamped the entire web page stuff. It looks much better now.
Also i believe i have discovered a way to make the movies for those who do not have UT installed. More info on that soon. I haven't actually tried it yet but i will and upload a demo for the gmail account if it works. It will be in .wmv format. Should be good for all.
