And unleashing it's sour, stenchy spawn (http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Movies/12/08/television.valderrama.reut/index.html) upon the world. :loopy:

Hollywood has run out of ideas...about 7 years ago. Remakes, sequels, bios, video games and comic books over and over. A short list:
The Flinstones
The Addams Family (R.I.P. Raul Julia)
Mission Impossible 1,2 and 3
Dukes Of Hazzard
Charlie's Angels (2 of 'em)
The Hulk
War Of The Worlds (Spielberg!?)
King Kong
Bewitched
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Saw 1,2
Ray
Walk The Line
Tomb Raider
Resident Evil
Doom

etc...

They have yet to make movies out of game shows. "Family Feud" the movie.
Although "Quiz Show", Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind" and "Magnolia" touched on them.

The gates have been open for a little while. That Potter kid keeps showing up too.

They should take a lesson from Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law. Old characters from some horrible cartoons, actually put to good use.

I hear they are making a sequel to Torque.

Nah just kidding. Let's not go overboard.

God help us if they ever make a sequel to Torque. And for whatever reason, I used to watch CHiPs, back in the day. It was on in the morning before I went to school, so I caught an episode every day. Not that I'm saying I'd see the movie, but Ponch is pretty freakin' cool.

Yep. The independent film guys do better stuff. Way better. LOTR aside.

Well actually, haven't you heard the hand-wringing about the "box office drought". Apparently Video Games are at fault.

Me, I blame the 20 minutes of commercials and trailers we are subjected to before a movie starts.

That and crap films as well.

I blame the theaters charging $9.50/show (I mean, seriously, wtf?) and $4 for a small popcorn plus another $3 for a small drink. (I mean, seriously, wwwwwwwwwwwwwtttttttttttttttfffffffffffffffffffff?).

Crappy movies come in second, and the dude on the couch is a distant 3rd. He creeps me out something fierce.

***Side note: When you can get more entertainment out of going to the local bar to watch the drunks sing and dance to a live band, all the while paying a hefty bill of $4 for your appetizer (since I don't drink, they usually never charge me for unlimited soda) for 3+ hours......why would I go see Legally Blonde 2?***

On a more serious note, you can lay the blame on tons of factors: Netflix, Blockbuster Online, theater prices, horrible films, the commercials before the movies, and current home theater systems to name a few. When I can go to my friend's house to watch a movie on an 8' projection screen, complete with 7.0 surround sound, in the comfort of his home (which means no cell phones going off, any drink/snacks I want, pausing for bathroom breaks), why would I sell my kidney to go to a theater?

I don't have a massive problem with the "Look what we can do NOW" movies, such as WOTW and King Kong, but remaking dodgy 70's series?
No
NO
NOOOOOOOOoooooo......

I would be happy with a movie that didn't use all the special FX imaginable within two or three scenes...

i.e.:

Half of a city is NOT going to explode because of a #!&^ing 5 mile an hour fender bender!! Nor will a 'hero' get shot at with every weapon ever created by man then simply walk away with a limp. This kind o' CRAP caused me to stop watching most live action movies in general.

Another thing I miss about good movies is...wait for it...the lack of CG scenes! Without CG, movie makers are left with REAL models that actually look real and don't seem so out of place (although they may be bulky, complex to build, and may even move funny on camera...they at least look like they're part of the scene). I will admit, CG has its place but, people get carried away with it sometimes.

[some o'] MyNe FaV (live action) movies:
1. Terminator 1 and 2 (good example of a REAL model -- not heavy CG)
2. Predator 1 and 2 (a good example where CG is needed and makes sense.)
3. Alien, Aliens, and Alien 3 (another good example of a REAL model -- not CG)
4. Wishmaster 1 and 2 (more REAL models/suits)

Even if some o' mYnE fav movies do use CG instead of real models in some spots, they didn't over do it in my opinion. Nowadays I just stick with anime as nothing in it can look out of place because ALL of it is either cartoony or CG -- nothing is mixed.

Then again, CG is usually added as a way to cut a corner unecessarily. It's often just too mechanical and solid, unlike the imperfect, rubbery hand-drawn material.

Are you trying to say that T2 was not the most technologically advanced and CG-intensive movie of its time?

I think the above points can be boiled down to "Just because you can, it doesn't mean you should."

I like the occasional flashy, graphically intensive movie. When everything that comes out looks like the matrix, however, it makes me want to cry. A perfect example of this is the Aeon Flux movie coming out. I'm a big fan of the animated series, and I think it's one of the most out-there, interesting things to get put on t.v. Actually, it was on MTV for crying out loud. Something quality actually coming out of the unholy station that is MTV boggles the mind. Unfortunately, I couldn't even get through the Aeon Flux trailer because it just oozed Matrix-ripoff.
