Well, if they don't want people to try out their game and get a sneak preview, then don't release a f-ing demo! WTF!
.....oh yeh, and the link doesn't seem to go to the correct page. :)

Oops - Thank You , SkaarjMaster !!!
Got the UPdate right here ;)
from metafilter.com ........... Ubisoft's demo of the new King Kong PC game (http://www.penny-arcade.com/news.php?date=2005-10-24) comes with a lovely surprise: StarForce (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarForce) copy protection software. Starforce installs a device driver with no warning, (http://www.glop.org/starforce/) , and many users have complained (http://www.star-force.com/forum/index.php?showforum=13) that it causes system instability. It also appears totally contrary to the idea of allowing users to copy the demo between one another (effectively robbing Ubisoft of free advertising). As with any form of copy protection it appears StarForce is simply an annoyance to the casual user, while the dedicated pirates are well on their way to cracking it. I stopped installing off demo disks years ago for the unwanted software they always seemed to install.
Eff the copywrite protection industry.

I'm sure its more about installing the anti-piracy spyware than it is protecting the demo.
Edit: also, it may be to protect the game code from being used to create a crack for the upcoming release.. :dunno:
More paranoia from game publisher exec's, more hassle for the rest of us.

What else is really silly about this is now the copy protection will be cracked before the game is ever released. :loopy:
