Okay so I thought it was about time someone started a topic on this :p So what's everyone's thoughts? Anyone finished yet? I know a lot of people who finished it within the first day...
I think I'll have it finished tonight (started yesterday) but I can't read it right now cos my step dad wants to read it, and it is afterall his book...heh. So anyway, my only major thought without spoiling anything is that I think it's blaringly obvious WHO the Half-Blood Prince is, but it doesn't seem like Harry, Hermione or Ron do, and I'm pretty far in (can't remember exactly but probably abou p460...).

I finished it last night. I liked it. I'll post more detail later. ;)

Gah I'm thinking I may have just had the ending ruined for me. Some tool posted a scan (on the 14th, before the book was released) of one of the last pages revealing something critical. If it's true, Blitz will know what I mean. I won't say what page it was on in case people get the urge to forward to that page :p Damn I'm a bit disheartened now.

Yeah, that's the main reason I didn't post any details...I thought even if I used spoiler tags you'd see it in email. This is the closest the series has come to a cliffhanger...but I'm sure I know what was revealed. It's been widely publicized that "someone" dies. Sorry if somebody told you who. That's why I read the book so fast and stayed off the net 'till I was done. Too many bastages.

LOL Radio! But if you had been paying attention, Harry Potter is evil in its purest form, and Christianity ralleys against it! There's nothing more Metal than Harry Potter
In other news: I finished the book. And the page that the people had scanned they actually photoshopped a different page number onto it...dunno why they'd bother. Ah well, it was true anyway. And yeah I can totally see what you mean about the cliffhanger ending, Blitz. Don't know if I approve of it though...haha.
I'll also be interested to see if Rowling does end the series with book 7. There will be big financial incentives (which she probably doesn't care about at all at this stage...) if she were to continue.
Gah, I just can't believe I have to wait another 2 years for the next installment!!

That's why I stayed off the internet until I finished it. I would have been pissed. I have some thoughts about what was really going on at the time the character in question died, but I'll save them for a little while and give more people a chance to read the book before I spoil it.

Not that I would have read the book. But I didn't know someone died. And from the way you're discussing it. Someone important. I'd put
spoiler tags around those tidbits because now if I do ever read the book all I'm going to be thinking about is "Who dies?"

KM: someone dies in pretty much every book anyway, so there's not exactly anything new :p

Not that I would have read the book. But I didn't know ... Yeah, I wouldn't have brought it up if it hadn't been so widely publicized. Even knowing that fact, I couldn't narrow it down beyond 3 or 4 people up until the fatal moment, so it wasn't too much of a giveaway unless someone actually reveals who the character is.
I understand your point, though.

Hey, look at that, the thread is about Harry Potter again! And where did half the posts go? It's mmmmmmmmmagic!
I liked the book - and going into it I actually hadn't heard much of anything about anyone dying, so nothing was spoiled for me. Is the next book going to be the last?

The series was outlined before the first book was published, and it's always been planned to conclude with the 7th book (one for each year of school at Hogwarts). Of course, given how popular the series is, I'm sure a whole new series could start at the end of this one. Assuming she doesning kill off Harry in the last book.

"... you die, she dies, everybody dies."
Classic Heavy Metal quote.
I haven't heard that in years...
