i am using Winxp and there are 2 major problems.

Problem 1, sometimes while i am playing, the game will just stops, but my pc is still running, the major problem is that i can't shut it off by pusing the power button, i needed to pull of the power supply, then it wills shut off. (Well if it stilll not shuting off after no power is connected, i will run away from it immadiately!)

Problem 2. This is awful, sometimes i am playing, my pc will just suddenly shut off, for no reason, and not even a bit of warning.

This really pissing me off!

I wish I could help you friend. The same thing has been happening to me. I was on a board with Zinia the other night and rebooted twice! He rebooted once, we could have won that one if we didn't reboot.

Go into the control panel and see if the power button is set to sleep/hibernate or shut off. Change it to shut off and you might want to try to hold the power button for 5 seconds.

Did you build the system yourself?

Your processor (or some other componant) could be overheating. Come to think of it, what kind of video card do you have? There's a good chance you may need to invest in a new one.

Make sure you have all the latest drivers. Especially if you have a motherboard that has a different northbridge/southbridge manufacturer.

Make sure your RAM and other hardware is seated properly; make sure all wires are securely plugged in.

its a laptop, and when it suddenly shuts off, i always check if the plug is lossen, or is it not attach to the power supply. But like i said everytime it suddely shuts off, everytime is plug and the power is totally connected.

i might consider the overheating and video crad issue. I can tell you that my video is 16 mb something and it really suck!

i might ask toshiba to help me upgrade the video crad, to a ge force 3.:rockon:

BC try hitting the Toshiba website. Go to Support and look up your model. There should be a knowledge base and chances are, theres an article in there addressing your shutdown problem.

alot of summer time or at least warmer weather lock ups are going to be due to some sort of heat issue.. I had a PIII750 in a dell with a lot of drives and it would over heat and just shut off..

the lock up problem.. where it will just freeze and you can't get out or do anything but power down.. I have had that too.. I think it was a sounds driver problem.. Never had to pull the plug on the cpu but it was really, really strange to lock up, not be able to move the mouse OR the key board even the alt tab or winkey..

Well i think it is the heating issue!

Don't worry i will get one of those weird bubble mat, that is made from japan, that claim to make the notebook stay cool, if you put your lap over it.

on the other hand, I think your power supply (adapter in this case as you are using a laptop) could be faulty. Of course, if it's a built-in adapter, your screwed. If it's an external one, you could probably try buying another power adapter.

This above solution applies only if your computer shuts down and reboots without any warning at anytimes, not just only playing UT.

and your pretty outdated... GF3??? get a live! get a GF4TI4200.

Geforce 4 TI4200, NOT THE TI4600!!!

GF4 will only cost you 1200 bucks or so, while a GF3TI500 is about $1000, there is not much difference...

Not to rain on the parade, but if it does turn out to be a failing video card then you may be S.O.L.

I'm not too familiar with that particular model system, but with most laptops you can't upgrade the video card (or any of the hardware in it)

I think you are correct, my video card sucks, and it really lag like hell. hearing that can't upgrade anything but my ram, just cost me another mouse!:evil:
