Here comes another curious moment from Airlea. What music do you find yourself listening to when playing UT?

i listen to lots of different things, as i'm to lazy to make seperate MP3 lists so all my 80 cagillion songs are on one list set to random. but i have the most fun when a good techno song comes up. A nice heavy, fast beat to kill someone too is always nice. =)

--Idle, Survivor "eye of the tiger" and Scorpions "rocked you like a hurricane" arguiably the best songs though

Normally i have the music off.
In all games i have it off.

I like to hear all the ambient sounds (especially the footsteps round the corner, then my Flak cannon firing, then gibs hitting the ground...lol)

Actually, the only game i kept the music on was JediKnight 2
Wicked music.

Nothing. I turn the music off so I can hear sounds like footsteps. The stereo speakers help to tell direction of sounds also.

Fight Club soundtrack most the time. I've tried without music to do the footstep thing but I never pay attention to them anyway.

Aha, now we know why Airlea dies so quick ... she's not listening to the footsteps coming up behind her.

Come to think of it, I didn't either, although I got fed up with the UT music after 10,000 times, and, have you ever listened to the music for Beer Wars? It was funny the first time, not the second, and downhill thereafter. So, I started listening to YES or Roxy Music played very loud (as they ought to be played).

But, I have come to realize that the sounds in the game are very important to playing well and sometimes just sometimes I can do something about those footsteps coming up behind me.

Just today I turned on player voices so I can hear the other players say "Roger!" and "Get our flag back." I turned them off when playing on other public servers where 12-year-olds delight in saying "I am the alpha and the omega" and "You are inferior," a gazillion times. Maybe I can be a better team player if I actually listen to my team.

Next step, binding some replies, like "Roger!" or "I'm on my way!"

i dont listen to music while i play. music makes it hard to hear ppl's footsteps, and gunshots. It really does help if you ask me to shut down ur Kazaa/morpheus and listen to the game.

Usually I listen to metal like Meshuggah or Soilwork when I'm playing UT, but lately I've been listening to the Fifth Element soundtrack ( fits perfectly ). I have the sound effects turned up louder then the music though, enough to hear everything.

gotta love that techno-opera from the fifth element =)
and yeah, i play my music on my mp3-beiotch computer..which is also running all my ICQ/aim etc. it's got my old cheap little speakers...

ut, however, is running with my fat Klipsch THX speakers with the nice sized Subbie. Turn up the bass and sound effects and I can not only hear you coming, I can feel it =)

so pleae, do a little jig behind me...it'll give me that warm tingling feeling deep inside :D

gotta love them footsteps.

One song... start of first match / level I drop into as sort of a warm up... Can be anything off the big mp3 list being I like all sort of tunes....

Then nothing but game sounds after that.... always with headphones on being you can't tell sound direction as well with speakers..

Also run highend headphones (Sony 7506) being cheap $40 crap pairs also rob you of sounds.. I did not know this till I bought a nice pair :) Now can hear a ton of other sounds that was just lost before hand... Main reason I almost never get snuck up on..

Yeah, I use some nice AKG reference headphones I bought for my home recording setup. It definetly makes a difference. My PC speakers sound like crap, I never use them.

Music has always been a big part of my life. I love it. I live it. I'd rather go blind (probably play a better UT game that way too:rolleyes: ) than to not ever hear music again.

When playing UT, I usually have something going. I've got the sounds of UT turned down, but I still hear my deaths and hear my own gasps when I actually kill someone like MM or Deadlamb or Idol. Of course, I also hear myself squeak when I'm in a room full of regs on one team and I'm the only one from my team. Gee. Who's going to die in that case? :dunno:

I remember playing that song "Bone Cracker"? not sure of the title. It was fitting for this one map. It was like my character knew the right time to die in the game. Fitting music. *nods*

I just put a post of this up on the "Unreal Playground" area of the forums. <bonk> Didn't mean to imitate you A ;). Anyhow, I listen to about 20-25 songs on my mp3 list, as I stated on the other thread. Anywhere from Metallica to P.O.D. to punk.

Music has also been a very big part of my life. I sleep to it, study to it, read to it, write to it.....pretty much it was everywhere I went. It gets me into the flow of doing whatever I'm concentrating on, and actually helps in my concentration. I find when I play music in the background, other noises (honking of car outside, plane flying overhead, even telephone ringing) doesn't effect me that much. And I keep my game sounds on...the only time I realize I'm playing music is after the game is over, when I can take a breather...other than that I can hear your footsteps just fine from behind me, even though I can be slow to avoid'em :moreconf: .

If you truly listen to everything; country included, you might dig this. It's a small sample of a song that reminds me of country music every time I listen to it. It's a sample so it's not a big file. Should be a quick download. If you like country ii, I'm sure you'll like this.

It's a song by a gent named Fredrick Allman and is titled "Recurring Trauma". (http://home.swbell.net/daboosh/Fredrick_Allman-Recurring_Trauma.wav)

my selection varies depending on other games I've played. Once Exeunt uploads his WCIII soundtrack to me, I'll have that playing while I play UT :D along with a few MGS 2(Harry Gregson-Williamson, classical rock, i guess) and a few Parasite Eve remix and GT3(rock, no singing) and Final Fantasy X (classical) and UT (techno)!

i used to listen to cold - 13 ways to bleed on stage album ingame. I played it so much that now when i listen to any cold songs, it reminds me of UT :D also i found listening to foot steps would screw me ingame during CTF matches cause everytime my teammate would pass by i'd end up turning around for no apparent reason. But what would i know... i need to get back into the UT frenzy :angst:

I tape a microphone to my chest and plug it into my stereo. This way when I grab the flag, I can hear myself having a heart attack.

Lately I've been alternating between the Gladiator soundtrack and the XtremeAltRock channel on Spinner.

I should try digging out my Terminator and Aliens soundtracks and give those a try...

I used to just not listen to the music and listen for the footsteps aswell, but when i listen to my music it really gets me jamming and i can usually fill a few more heads with lead before i kill myself.
In scrimms and matches i usually mute my sound so i can hear what my teams saying, and hear the footsteps of the other players(especially those kaw bastards sneaking up behind me.):D
