Try defragging the drive with the UT files and the C drive with your OS files. When you add a lot of maps and UT files this makes a mess of things in a hurry.

known issue, incompatibility with several things as far as I can tell. Specifically post-436 nvidia cards and win XP seem to cause this all the time. I get it a lot. If you ever see me leave game and come back and say "****ing computer" this happened to me.
If i leave and come back and say "****ing ATT", be aware my broadband sucks. but hey, better than 56k and playing UT over a commodore. <shrug>

Happens to me all the time. Hope UT2K3 eliminates this.
I uncheck "Draw Decals" and it happens less often.

its like the bloodstains, skorch marks, left over pieces of Creeper's gibs from my rocket launcher.
I think Sobe fixed this problem by replacing the d3ddrv.dll file in her UT/system folder with one found on this page:
http://unreal.epicgames.com/Direct3D.htm
or read sobe's post here:

I get that off & on, here's what helps:
Make sure you numbers match. The Display 16 or 32 bit must match your UT Color Depth 16 or 32.
Go to Contril Panel- Display- to color
UT- Options-Preferences- Color Depth.
I find it can change with downloads ( don't know how though ) so when ever you get that error, just check your numbers. Phan helped me out with this. Thanks Phan :)
