Nali Sh*tty (©Horton's Who) is making some changes which has resulted in some problems with Game Spy. Downloading files is problematic at the moment.

As of some time today, GameSpy has removed all of the files from the FTP server that we have linked to for the past three years.
As I stated yesterday, we are working on our own file mirroring solution, which had a beta run on the PU version of Nali City, called FileRing. The BeyondUnreal version of this system is not ready yet, and I'm not certain as to when it will be completed. We ask your patience.
Rest assured: we will have multiple mirrors for Unreal and UT maps, as well as upcoming maps for Unreal 2 and Unreal Warfare, and Nali City will rise up from all of this to become, again, the center of the Unreal-engine mapping community.

11-2-2001 07:47 pm - QAPete*******Welcome!
Welcome to Nali City, hosted now on BeyondUnreal. The new URL is http://nalicity.beyondunreal.com.
There are a few things you should know about the site as it is, and as it will be. Let's start with what led up to this.
After I, along with my friends, started up BeyondUnreal, beginning with our forums, GameSpy disabled all of our accesses to the PU Nali City. Soon after, they decided that, rather than continue to host Nali City (my site) on PU, they'd rather just cut the ties and eliminate the site from PlanetUnreal.
While we've managed to get things pretty much back together, there are a couple of things to note. First, some of the links won't work yet. We know, and we're working on BeyondUnreal replacements for some of the stuff. GSI has forced the timing of this move to BU, so we're doing some catching up.
Second, the download links are still pointing to FilePlanet, but I was informed by GSI that they will be moving ALL of the Unreal and UT files off the current FTP server. They may or may not continue to host the files that we have. So, unless they do and we are given the ability to link to the existing maps, we won't have a file mirror until we get our own mirroring system set up. Also, unless GSI agrees to work out some arrangement where we can 'push' files to FilePlanet automatically, new files will not be made available until we get our mirroring system set up. The timing of our mirroring system is 'when it's done'. Please, asking won't expedite the process. We want it to be good.
Third, this is just a copy of Nali City from PU, with some tweaks. We are working on NC 3, which is being rewritten from the ground up. No timing on that yet, but we'll be ready long before U2 and UW come out.
Finally, the forums have been recreated from scratch. We may (or may not) try to import the old forum posts - we're currently looking into doing that. In the interim, visit the Nali City forums over at BeyondUnreal.
In closing, I want you guys to know that the admin team here is 100% committed to getting NC fully online within the least amount of time with the best features. I started this site three years ago, and I'm not going to see it crumble. We have very big plans for Nali City, and they include you!

Ya, this has been brewing for a while now. Ironic that GAMEspy may actually be damaging the gaming community. Maybe they have the right to demand certain things from the sites that are hosted by them or whatever, after all they do provide a big service to many but they've gone about it the wrong way. Almost malicious it seems. Next thing u know they will ge pulling unreal tournament from their "Top 5 games by player currently online" list or sabotaging the results.......

It might be a strectch but I predict PlanetUnreal will be next to go.

I was an avid user of Gamespy and then just got tired of getting dozens of pings from other sources whenever I'd log into it. It never failed, I'd get 30-40 pings evertime I'd log in.. To HELL with Gamespy!! I even took my chainsaw and carved the lil icon right out of my computer screen.. That's prolly why, during a game, if you run to my left, I stop shooting at ya.. hehe.. Gotta get that fixed one of these days I reckon..:D

I heard a tale where they want to pull free online gaming so they can charge a monthy fee. Can you imagine having to pay $5 or $10 a month to play UT? They will compare it to a movie out and such. The rumor said the companies want an ON GOING share of the gaming market..a way to do this is after the initial cd cost ( would be cheaper) a monthy fee would be charged to play. They say it would improve their research & developement and in the end give the players a better product. I of course don't believe they will deliver the better product..they seldom do :(

GameSpy+Redeemer=Happy EH

To hell with those asswipes. I actually have the reg'd version of GameSpy and GameLaunch(back from my Q2 days) and this is how they repay the gaming community. I try and make it a point not to go to any of those pages and bash them whenever possible...like now....:D

Sobeit mentioned monthly fee for online gaming....

Yeah, it's coming someday. The game-box's like Xbox and the Cube will all be heading there... I can see parents now telling their kids... "What do you want more, cable or XBox?" Nah... so many spoiled kids now, they'll get both because it's cheaper than a baby sitter....

There will always be a free online gaming community and it will be the most popular for obvious reasons. The inital fee for purchasing the game is all that should be required. The servers like this great one here at stealth do not belong to game spy.

( The master server may belong to game spy... )

Either way we will have a free service. Enough crazy hacks like me and the other mappers and moders can get access to the source code to create a free gaming community if one does not exist.
